My mom is selling avon just to make spending money. She's doesn't make LOTS of money but she makes a little extra. She just sells to people she knows at the hospital she works at.

Just like any business, it will require time and effort. I can't really speak for avon, but I have a home based business with Latasia jewelry and I love it! It does seem that avon has a LOT of reps out there. Depending on how many are in your area, it may be hard to get customers.

There is a fair number of people selling Avon and making fair money at it. My daughters tried it, but didn't do that well.
I would like to offer your this pearl of wisdom... And that is, there is no such thing as making a lot of money without working hard for it. Whether you sell AVON or widgets, it depends on you.
The nice thing about Avon is you can set your own hours and work the business around school or a family. And, Avon is a reputable and well known company, which is another advantage. So, it's back to you and your level of commitment.
