Last night I got our sale paper and it had a Laptop on sale for around 400 dollars. It stated limited 14 per store *red flag came up this wasn't going to be a good experience* so I said ok.. Sale starts Nov 5th and my store is a 24 hour store. So it should start around midnight. I decided to go early I went down there around 10:30 I would just hang around with the rest of the people :)
When I get there I go to electronics and I find there are no boxes for the computer so I go up to one of there workers with a smile and a giggle and say "this is probably a dumb question but do you have any of the computer's on sale for tomorrow left?" She looks at me in terror and says no. They gave the tickets out already early at 5.....
5!!! I got a bit upset and said how can they do that.. she told me she planned on handing them out at 11pm but her manager decided on doing it earlier.
Is there not a law against doing this? should I complain to the BBB?

You bet their is a law about this. Stop being so nice, they'll chew you up and spit you out. (Sorry, I'm not being rude---just truthful) I also get accused of being too nice. Go back to the store and ask to speak to the electronics manager. Tell him the story and demand that they honor their ad in the paper. Tell him you were there at 10:30PM and spoke to the clerk. Tell him what the clerk told you. People in government are down on WalMart right now. So I would think they would want to avoid any more bad publicity. Last resort---tell him you are going to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. If he gives you no help go to the General Manager. Remember if you have a problem like this again, take care of it on the spot when you have the actual clerk on shift. Don't back down, shame them into it. The ad which sounded to good to be true, probably is, as they might not ever have sold any laptop computers at this price. Ask to see their records for the 14 sales.

The Retail buisness is out to get your money. They persuade you with low prices & ad's to make you think they are actually there to help you,well...they are not. If it was advertisment for every Wal*Mart it doesn't matter when they sell the product,it's usually first come first served. The add never told you when they would sell the computer,they just sayed their was a limit,so they could sell it when they wanted to,because they didn't give you a exact time to get the product,so it is basically legal. The retail buisness is a cruel world,you just have to keep your eyes open,and realize when you should/or shouldn't buy an item.

I would be pissed too. I'm sure they would find some sort of loop hole, but I would think it would be some sort of false advertising. I'm not a lawyer or anything so you'll probably want a better answer. But, I think it's a bunch of crap! |

Get the names of the employees and manager, the store number and write the corporate office of walmart and complain. I dont know what else you can do, but if Walmart feels that you were wronged, they will probably do something. Dunno what, but hopefully its fire that store manager and he can go look for another crappy job, or better yet starve to death. BTW, they probably never gave them to the public and all of the employees, including the manager probably bought them and then resold it on ebay or sonething like that. Ask them to track who actually purchased the machines that went to that stoore. They can track it. |

um no i used to work at wal-mart and we had to do that because (when the x-box 360 came out) people would be fighting (literally) for it. what happened was the 360 was going onsale (we only had 14 in stock) on a tuesday people started coming in on monday around 10am and they were fighting (physically) with each other so to settle it my manager gave out the tickets to the 1st fourteen and told everyone else to they could go home. it was so many people there for the game that people who were there to actually shop could not do so because of these people we had to call the police it was a mess. generally when something like this happens you should call the store and ask if they are going to hand out tickets and ask when. make sure that you speak with the store manager (get his name) because if you don't know his name they will question why you want to speak with him. If you ask for him by name then they will assume he is expecting your call. but in general wal-mart is not the best place to buy electronics ( especially computers from) I would tell you not to buy a computer there because if something goes wrong you are going to have a hell of a time trying to get the manufacturer to honor the warranty. and the extra insurance is a joke. i will tell you to go through best buy you get a good comp at a low price or HP Compaq. |

Yes, you should complain. Go to the walMart.com site and see if you can comlpain there via email. be polite and to the point, but be direct. You are unhappy, this is not fair and somewhat shady and you suspect the tickets were given out to special people....Also, go see that store manager in person and explain what happened. if you get no satisfaction, then report it to the BBB, but try to let them fix it first. |

Bentonville, Arkansas is where their headquarters is. You can ask the store manager for the phone number, that alone will scare them and prior to them giving you the number they will bend over backwards to prevent you from calling. They may offer you a laptop for the same price. This is defiantly a mistake on their part. They wanted to get it over with early so they wouldn't have to go through the hassle of 50 people wanting 14 computers. If you do have to end up calling headquarters I'm sure they will take care of it. I don't care for Wal-Mart but I've heard a lot of good things about the outcomes of complaints. |
