My midpt. in life.
Should I work for rude Clothing company!?
I wanted to work for this local clothing company. I call to get answers to questios about "positions" and "salary expected" on the application. I was chewing gum on the phone. I make the call and I get this fairly rude person answering. Made me wonder if I should work for these ppl, the impresion I get was very bad.

Am I wrong for the gum, or were they wrong? I admit chewing on the phone is NEVER appropriate, I made the call and didnt even remember to the the gum out.

I'm dressed business causual and am wondering if I should take the time to go up there and get the answers I need. Or should I concider working somewhere else. I didnt like the impression I got. She practically hung up on me when I askes about salary expected and requested what the company usually gives.

What salary should I expect from a "sales associate"? Is 8 dollars an hour fair? I only plan on working part time, daytime.

what do you think?
Thanks

( I would appreciate it if you have work experience)!

Wrong question to ask. You wait until you are at the interview. You blew it. Don't waste your time. I have been in human resources for many years and I can tell you anytime someone has asked me about salary before even coming in for the interview I couldn't care less if they graduated from Harvard. They weren't getting the job. Why? Because that indicates to me there goal is merely more money not work productivity and helping the company achieve it's goals. Sell me on what you can do for us before you go asking about salary.

Surely this must be your first try at getting a job. But in my time they taught us the do's and dont's and what you did was certainly not one of the do's. You are asking if you should work for the company, but frankly speaking I don't think they would have you. We also went to work with companies for short periods doing what they called "work experience."
of course you could be putting us on.

Did you speak to someone from human resources...or a sales clerk? Chewing gum is not real bright...but were you popping it or something? Sales associates generally get the prevailing minimum wage. You're the only one that can decide if you want to work there.

the person who answered the phone probably was having a bad day. i would go up there in person and see how they are. your salary can vary depending on where you live.

Well, I'll be very honest with you - She was probably offended because you asked her about salary - It's initially not good edicate to do that over the phone - That's something that's done during an interview.... IDK what clothing company it is - but they should pay much more then $8.00 an hour for a sales associate. Give it a try - fill out an application and if they call you for an interview - ask any question you'd like - then, you can decide on whether or not the position is right for you. Good luck.

Go....
Maybe you started off on the wrong foot but it could rteally be a good opportunity. If not, it's worth the experience to go to interviews if you are serious about landing a job....
Go to as many as possible, this way you're not surprised next time.
