Should a president ( or any company officer) get away with murder?
If two individuals in your organization commit an offense of the same gravity (i.e. serious offense) who should get punished more severely, the officer or his or her staff and why?

They ideally should be treated the same, but in our society it could go either way. The president could be charged more highly in order to be used as an example, or the staff could be charged higher because of their lower statues.

They should be treated equally

im.in.college.so.i.know.stuff
They should both be punished the same, but any sentence will be much more harsh for the higher level person because they are in a position where trust / honesty / integrety has a much higher emphasis.

If a drifter commits murder, he's homeless at the end of the day anyway, but if it's a CEO, he's probably not gonna be a CEO for much longer.

the same punishment for the same offense
if have to choose one - the officer,
as staff usually do what officer requires and/or are ordered to do so as part of their duties
normally, officer is believed to have more knowledge/ experience

They should get the same punishment. Everyone is equal under the eyes of law. Not because someone has a higher position in anything means that he/ she can get it off lighter than the other person. Or meaning the one in a higher position has to take higher responsibility. And this is murder! Nobody gets away with it. Anyone who murders anyone should pay!

oldguy
no one should be above the law. the president can commit murder while in office but can't get arrested until his term is up.

In a real world where things actually worked the way they should, both people should recieve the same punishment for the same crime. However, in the case of the officer, the business will probably try to get them off of the charge because it will make their business as a whole look better, whereas they can just fire the staff member, and blame them for being a "disgruntled employee."

Dr Christian Troy
equal punishment to both.
why would rank or status mean anything in a situation like that?
