Itchy McFanny | Should i report Argos to trading standards for this? |
I bought window boxes from argos and my step dad put them up, he put the first one up and thought the screw heads were a bit small for the holes but left it as it was already up and thought it would probs be ok as it was sold from a big company, he used his own screws with bigger heads for the other ones just to be sure, i came homw today and it had fell off my wall as the heads had indeed gone thru the holes, im on the 1st floor , how bad would that have been if someone was below it (like my downstairs neighbour and her 4 month old baby).
I took it to Argos and the lad asked me if i wanted a refund, i said no as it wasnt about that it was about them being unsafe (although as i have to replace all my plants i am reconsidering this), he asked me what i did want and i said for the baskets to be taken off sale and made safe. He said he totally agreed with me and could see they werent safe the he went to see his manager who said they wouldnt take them off sale. Additional Details Should the manager not have took this more seriously and maybe asked head office or something instead of just saying no to me. Does someone have to be hurt before they will do something? |

Sorry to say this is usually the way with big companies, but you can ask trading standards what they think about this, if they decide to take action it is then done on your behalf with no cost to you.
Good luck |

YES ID TAKE THE MATTER UP WITH TRADING STANDARDS, BUT I WOULD E-MAIL A LETTER TO HEAD OFFICE, OVER THIS INCIDENT WITH THE MANAGER TODAY, DATE TIME, WHAT WAS SAID ETC ETC, AND JUST WAIT FOR A REPLY. |

We ordered some wardrobes from Argos a few years ago. They delivered the wrong bits and we never managed to get 2 complete units. They then told us it was hard luck because they were discontinued. It was a real mess.
In the end we had to get a solicitor to get us a refund. Even then, when they came to pick up their junk, the drivers gave us a load of attitude. |

Yes report good old argos. They deserve to get hauled over the coals. Unfortunately they have gotten to big for their boots now Index appears to have disappeared without a trace. Ikea are just as bad. Unfortunately its now the norm that if you buy something flat-pack regardless of how much you have paid or who the supplier is - you get shafted. I always have extra ready. I even sometimes have to drill extra holes, etc. The manager and his staff had no business implying at anytime that they had the power to simply remove items from sale there and then. It should have been explained fully to you that if you were unhappy with a product and not happy with the options offered to you to resolve the situation then you could take it further. |

You may have a point but from a legal point of view you didn't use the supplied screws.....so their lawyers would say you weren't following the recommended instructions, and i'm afraid they'd win. |

Though I think Argos is a great shop for all sorts of reasons I do advise people not to buy self assembly equipment from there.
Argos maintains low prices on much of this equipment by making sacrifices on quality. Many items bought from argos years ago were fine, when we have replaced them with supposedly identical items recently,we found they were of extremely low quality and of no use at all.
As for the window box, head office will have quality control re-examine the item before making a decision.Store level managers dont have the power to remove items from sale, computers and a handful of head office staff manage remotely. |
