Should the US fund a Bailout to GM and Chrysler?
Most people seem to think so. However, I'm not so sure that we should. These two companies are the biggest jokes ever. 95% chance that they will blow it and we will be in this same situation a year from now. Also, I do not think it is fair that the UAW is not willing to reason with the senators. Its ridiculous. It seems to me like the ball is in the UAW's court. They can either take a pay cut or lose their jobs. They seem to be leaning towards the latter.

Agreed. Filing Chapter 11 Bankruptcy would be so much better for the companies, its like starting over with no contracts with the Union. You'd have to ask my dad about it but he'd give you a lecture..

You need to get more correct information. Republicans support foreign makers because the foreign plants in the predominant red south support republicans. So not supporting the u s automakers. Indirectly makes for more support for the republicans. And we already have a toy problem with lead infested toys from lower standard countries. But i guess this is ok. China already owns alot of america, so keep giving them a little piece at a time. And the us automakers made concessions to a point where their wage is competitive to the foreign plant workers in america. Not to mention 1 in 10 jobs are tied to the automakers. Plus g m has 3 or more models with gas milelage with or more miles per gallon compared to the foreign cars.

You're right, Some however, have chosen to take a pay cut in order to keep other employees. The thing with GM and Chrysler that really ticked me off was when on the news they showed these guys going to a big meeting for the bailout. What did they come in? A private jet. Yeah, when the media made comments about it, they decided to drive the next time. Hello, sell the damn jet. That should bring in quite a bit, but no, gotta have that luxury at all cost now don't they. They don't care about their employees, if they did, they would do something about their cut backs on themselves, I'm sure they could afford a cut back without worry. NOPE, make the employees give up the money instead. NO, should be no bail out until they have done all they can to help themselves and not look once again to lower or middle class tax payers money to bail them out. Sorry, but it just aggravates me.

No. And it's not the the UAW, it's all the money all those execs make... millions and billions each. EACH

What you are told on CBS and NBC and the others is that all these guys make $70/hr. Yeah, sure. It is $70 / hr for the older guys on the upper tier, which includes 30 years in retirement!!!!! a tweaked figure to make it appear the unions have a throttle hold.. when in fact that do not....Figured that way, I as a teacher make that as well. But it isn't what I have to live on... I make $17/hour before taxes.... and the upper tier makes about $24 as a UAW worker again before taxes... not all that unreasonable.. The garbage workers in this town make $60 actual dollars per hour before taxes..

So the ball in not in the court of the UAW, the ball is in the court of the execs in these companies.

i think we should merge Ford and GM and cut down the size of the company, then give them a smaller bailout. theres too many jobs at stake. also let chrysler fail, theyve been a problem in the past and always wil be

Chapter 11 will not force workers out of work. Its when that reorganization fails that things go bad, but if GM has no plan to avoid that, oh well...

Chrysler does not deserve a penny. A bunch of investors (ie.e that equity firm known as Cerebus) made a bad investment. They should NOT be given a handout, especially when they are NOT showing us their books.

That is the bad thing about America today. Nobody is allowed to fail. Instead, we applaud their failure and poor business decisions by actually debating a handout.

Americans recovered from the loss of the horse and carriage as whip makers went on to do other things in life.

I suppose present day America has turned into a bunch of non-resilient crybabies. I might be right on that point.

They should be given the LOAN (not bailout). There is too much at stake and too many jobs will be lost. This whole situation has nothing to do with the way business was ran or how much UAW members make. It has everything to do with the economy! GM sold more cars than any other company last year over 9,000,000! Toyota and Honda have asked and received help from their governments! But our government is ready to throw the big three under the bus because a few southern republicans (that have foreign car plants in their states) want to cause a rift because the UAW normally endorses democrats!
Don't be fooled politics are definitely in play and these few Republicans are as happy as can be that they finally got a chance to stick it to the unions.

I don't think so, either.

Business is a risk. They chose not to get with the times and make affordable, innovative, efficient cars. Yes, I feel bad for the workers that will lose their jobs, but just working for a huge company doesn't mean permanent job security. It's just risky, and the government should not bail them out.
