Andrew P | Should there be a comma before "Inc" or "LLC" in the name of a company. Can any cite sources? Thanks.? |
Several people in my office have differing opinions but I can't seem to find anything on the subject. |

Yes, you're separating the name from the designation. It's like these examples:
James Jones, Junior
Coca-Cola, Inc.
San Francisco, CA
AMENDED:
I decided to elaborate on my answer since this is an office debate. Both are actually acceptable... now. You will get people saying that the comma is "old school." What is really meant when they say that is that so many people have been doing it incorrectly that it had to be labeled as "optional." It's like the frequent and irritating misuse of "less" when it should be "fewer," or "which" when it should be "that."
"Old school" is, and in my mind always will be, the correct way. Language certainly does evolve, but it should not "devolve" out of ignorance or laziness.
Whatever you do, be consistent. |

Yes, I always put a comma before things like that.
Example: ABC Clothing Company, LLC
It sorta separates the LLC or the Inc from the company name.
Don't have any source beside my brain and what I think is true. haha. |

Example:
Devon James Associates, Inc.
When filing as a business or even qoutating one, there is always a comma!! |

Yes, place a comma after the last word of the title that immediately precedes Inc or LLC. |
|

Solace
 |
There is no coma before Inc or LLC. People do put a full-stop after Inc. or LLC.
You may visit sec website to see how names are recorded there. Take a listing of companies. |

It depends on the legal name of the entity. It's not usage or grammar. The legal name as filed with the secretary of state and the IRS will dictate whether there is a comma or not.
