Should there be a limit on how much money corporations can make?

F. Perdurabo
No.

How do you propose policing this? Being in finance I know that there are dozens of totally legal ways (GAAP) of juggling your numbers - how do we set the limit? Will it be based on sales or income? Does foreign currency count and if so in what capacity - in exchange rates?

And what about the dozens of legal entities that a corporation creates? My company is comprised of almost 20 separate entities that span the globe. Which of those entities is limited?

My point is that it would require such a tremendous fundamental shift in the entire dynamic of corporate america; it also goes against one of our fundamental beliefs as americans - the self made man - the man that made something out of nothing.

Governments have already tried to pass 'special' laws that will end up affecting only one company (Walmart) with miserable results.

Gene Rocks!
No. It wouldn't be a free market if there were income ceilings.

sort of i own a large mini market which is a spar tesco came along and took nearly half of my sales off me when they opened accross the road they already make billions is that not enough yes they are employing people but how many people really want to work in a supermarket if u ask any kid id bet non of them would say i want to be a cashier its not fair

Nope. That would be undemocratic. Who imposes the limit, what gives them the right and how much would it be? It is scary to think Tesco's turnover is more than the economy of a medium sized country though.

honey
hmm good question but i dnt really know sorry!

abebibobub2003
kindof, then the reminder of the money that they don't actually need could go to a charity that actually needs the money. Microsoft for example, they make billions, and I don't see them donating any money to help kids, or to cure cancer, this way, they would be forced to, so yeah, good idea.
