Mr Stalkington
Should we Bail out GM ?
The way I see it, GM has no chance of ever becoming profitable again! It is dead weight that should be cut loose. It would actually cost less to keep the employees at home and continue paying their salaries (excluding CEOs, Board of Directors...etc.) than it would to keep the factories open & making vehicles.

What's your opinion on the subject?

Michael C
No we should not.

Granted if we do not do so we have to take the consequences with it, which is the lose of not only GM jobs but the ancillary jobs (such as parts, etc). Estimates are the roll down affect could impact more than a million people. We also have to accept the impact this will have on specific states, but then again when a city/state does not diversify they have to take the consequences, such as here in Vegas.

GM has a bad business model and if we bail them out they will not change, they will just come back for more one day. We will also be encouraging other companies of their size to be the same.

If the govt did bail them out, which I think they should not, there should be massive restrictions such as the voiding of union contracts, the dissolution of golden parachutes for executives, etc. and the company should have to start over on their cost structure. There should also be requirements on the production on new vehicles that are more competitive, etc.

No...I am tired of the government bailing out Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac, I.G.A., etc. They got their own self in this mess. Hey if they really want to help let them send me a check.

Charlie M
A bailout to GM will only cover up a huge problem in our economy. The big three are not competitive on the global scale. Let them enter chapter 11 bankruptcy and restructure (like the airline industry). If they cannot restructure into profitable entities, then so be it. Anyways, failures brings about innovation.

golferwhoworks
no if they need one let the oil company's do it as they need the big 3

demondude86
i think all ceos need a salary cap ... ye sim a sports fan, honestly cap the money that those execs are making and the companys wont lose all that money to guys who just take it and run.

and no we shouldnt bail them out... if a company fails its their own fault even though we are in hard times they made bad choices and shouldnt be saved... no one sees the government bailing out the failing citizens, only the rich.

worldpeace
I agree. I actually just asked this same question myself, but then I noticed that you'd already asked it.
