Radio Shack could easily be next.
Wal Mart isn't going anywhere, fye the music/video store could also be going soon as most people don't buy cd's anymore.
CC going under comes from a long time of poor management, that is the simplest way to explain what happened to them. I worked for them and I know how bad thier decsion making was, and no I am not disgruntaled, I like CC very sad to see them go.
Toys r us and it would be sad to see them go could also be soon.
Sears/Kmart could also be closing stores.
Many local small chains around the country are also in danger. |

RadioShack is staying in business since they don't invest heavily in large items like TVs, washers etc. They mostly sell accessories and batteries hard to find elsewhere. These small items usually have huge mark-ups, a fact which brings the company lots of cash every month to survive. They also get reimbursements from cell phone companies for each phone sold, another way to generate income.
Target has strong financial outlook, never posted a loss in last 10 years. Walmart is staying, no matter what happens. BestBuy will survive if it can survive this recession.
I think product-specific stores, like "Toys "R" Us" face bigger challenge than other stores, since demand for toys etc dropped heavily. |

RadioShack is a quiet beast. Even in this prolonged recession, they didn't close even one store, nor did they fire one sales-worker. If they can survive this recession, they will continue to exist. BTW fall of Circuit City is going to help RadioShack a lot.
Wal-Mart is just too big to fall. Target is doing ok and not in much jeopardy. Kohl's revenue and profit both are going up steadily so no sign of risk.
As someone said, FYE may go under. |

Sears hasn't changed it's appearance in 15 years. They can't compete with Walmart, Target, and Macys. The only thing that keeps them going is their tools and appliances. They should drop all apparel and they may be able to survive.
Radio Shack hasn't posted good numbers recently. You can get all your necessary electronics or cables online or at best buy. Best buy is going to put all the competitors besides Wal-mart out of business.
FYE is a joke. Don't know how they have lasted so long- because their prices and services are pathetic.
I bet these stores don't make it to July. |
