Anyone Know?
So Bill Gates is to step down from Micro$oft, so he can devote his time to charity work. Isn't there enough...
....charity workers in the world already? And don't you think he should stay in control of the world's biggest software company?

It is not like our industry has lots of people with his experience to just let go..

What do you think?

Firstly, there are lots of qualified and capable IT people, and Bill is not one of them.

In IT the banner passes quickly to new companies and Google seems like the company that will take the lead in the near future (with Apple being the spoiler).

Bill Gates is not an IT genius. I remember when people first starting telling me that he was, well they weren't IT people, they were business people (MBA students).

Bill Gates is a business genius, but there are lots of those.

Charity is full of wankers, tossers, do gooders, nuts and other people who have no place in Charity work. Even the good ones have trouble making themselves heard.

If Bill walks into a place and says "Let's cure Malaria" people will listen.

If Bills wants to do it, he can open his own check book to make it happen.

If he wants to do this sort of thing, good on him....

or

maybe it is a plot to release a vaccine that will be like Windows, expire after a few years, crash your system and require upgrading on a regular basis....so that he will turn much of the world into his slaves.....bhwa ha haahahhaha

maybe he could give some of his billions as a charitable donation to some worthy cause.......like me!

seriously, i think he has so much money, i think he will still keep his hand in on the computer technology...it is part of him, and he must enjoy it.
but if i had that much money would you be out working day in day out?

He's makes more money per second than you and I make in a day. He can do whatever he wants to make himself happy. If charity and philanthropy make him happy, he should do it.

NoWay
If there was enough charity workers there wouldn't be any charity work left to do.

i thin kits admirable of him.
even though he is very qualified for his job, im sure he didnt just pick anyone to replace him.

not only that, but even though we have alot of people involved with charity, we could ALWAYS use more. after all, if we had enough people fixing things, wouldn't eventually there be no use for charities?

he has done a lot for technology, but now he is giving other people a turn, AND using his status for a good influence. i think that its a good thing.

ells
There are never enough charity workers - I think his actions are very comendable and it is his own company so he can do what he wants with it.

I doubt if Bill Gates has stepped down without making sure someone of quality who knows his job has been put in his place, if its charity he wants to work at now, all the best to him, but i hope he remembers not to make money from it for himself, he has enough already anyway, judge him later after you have seen what he has done.

Feeling Mutual
I think that is wonderful of him.

Helping others will bring you much more happiness than a new ferrari-

It's an excellent move for him. He's got a great team of staff at the top level, he's not "leading" any more anyway, he's just the head of a huge conglomerate juggernaut, so why not step off and do something more important (yes more important!).
There's certainly not enough charity in the world.
You know, these guys are excited about Ferraris and Yachts and stuff alright, but rapidly get tired of them. He's moving on!
