Someone is stealing in the warehouse i work in , the boss is threatening to sack us all , can he do this?

bambola025
nope..not without a proof. he could however sack you on other grounds such as poor performance etc(only if this is the case though)
there are procedures in place for dismisal that employers must adhere to otherwise you can have them for unfair dismissal.

In the UK, to sack someone without reasonable cause and without following procedure could well be unfair dismissal. The compensation for unfair dismissal is pitiful so I would suggest taking (or at least threatening) civil action for 'wrongful dismissal' as well because the compensation is potentially unlimited. Most employers are unaware of this ... as are many lawyers.

In reality, your employer would be daft to sack everyone because of the potential cost of compensation claims and because it would have too much impact on the business. I'd guess this is a bluff in order to deter the thief or to put pressure on the innocent staff to look out for who the thief might be.

A more constructive course of action might be to work with all the staff to review security because, if anyone knows the weaknesses, it is the people doing the job. Perhaps you could suggest this if you feel it might help.

well he might say it but he has to prove it or you could take him to a tribunal for unfair dismissal

this man needs proof ,and as he doest no yet who is doing it ,i would say he cant do this as he will be calling you all thieves , a court summons could float his way if it was me he sacked for not doing a misdemeanour

Unless you are specifically covered by an employment contract, ( such as being in a union) you can be terminated at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all.
