Item ends in couple of hours surely this is not in the spirit of ebay. Is this just cheeky or am I being fussy ? There are several watchers as well as bidders and I don't want to raise issues. Can I just say bid and see or is this a bit rude as a reply ? ebay used to be fun.

I would say so, otherwise whats the point of putting a reserve price on an item if youre going to tell someone, they are really taking the mick asking you as it is, id tell em to bid like anyone else, and no its not rude, its the person whos asked thats got a cheek!!! |

Here's what's illegal according to the ebay rules:
*Stating the reserve price of the item when the item has not been listed using the reserve price feature.
* Stating that the high bidder is obligated to purchase the item even if the reserve price has not been met.
*Canceling bids and ending a listing early because the seller's desired price has not been met to avoid reserve fees. |

Don't think it has to be a secret. I've had people ask me how much my reserve was, and then when I told them they placed a bid, won, and paid for the item.
Whether or not you want to tell people is up to you. If you do tell people it gives them a better idea whether they want the item or not. |

I think the point of the reserve price is to get at-least what you want for your item; I don't think it is a secret nor should it be. When I bid on items with a reserve I bid what I think is fair, then I will ask what the reserve is worth if the seller responds and the reserve is only a few dollars higher than my bid, I will place a new bid. If the seller doesn't respond or tells me that don't want me to know, I move on. I am sure you are not the only one on Ebay selling this item, so if you want it sold just reveal your reserve and let the buyer decide. |

just ignore it if you dont to seem to rude - you can alwys reply after bidding has ended and say sorry i just got your message.
i wouldnt let people know my reserve price, they are less likely to bid if they know what it is. more likely to keep increasing their bids bit by bit if they THINK they are close... best to keep them in suspenders. |

Its not really in the spirit of eBay, though it doesn't hurt anyone and no advantage is gained by knowing, in fact I once ask an ebayer myself just as a guide to how much he wanted just to see if I was prepared to bid that much any way. |

Do you want to sell it? It isn't a State Secret so tell them what it is. Lots of sellers will post it in the description.
If I ask a seller and get the "bid what you feel comfortable bidding" I take my wallet and I go else where. I don't bid on auctions where the seller acts like that.
As I said, it isn't a secret, go ahead and let them know. |
