The bottom line is you have to do what is best for you and your future. Your present employer should understand that people of your caliber are always going to be in demand. Obviously, I don't know the industry you are in, but if the company is in a position to do so, they might just make you a better offer to keep your talents in house. In any case, you should ask to meet with the boss and give your notice personally, as well as in writing. Sure, it is much easier to leave a job you dislike, but, again, it's your future at stake. You earned the good treatment, so don't feel as though you are betraying your boss. You said it best ... Sometimes you just do.
Best of luck in your new position. |

One thing my boss taught me is, only worry about yourself and money will follow. It worked. Do the same. Don't be foolish. |

I had to do the same thing years ago after returning from an all-expense paid training week in Texas and a weekend in the Poconos. Remember, you have to look out for yourself first in these situtations. They'll be disappointed but will, hopefully, understand and handle it professionally. Offer to train your replacement and make the transition as easy as possible for them. Just be honest and straightforward. Hemming and hawing doesn't help. Do it as early in the day as possible.... get it over with. Good luck with your new opportunity. |

if you feel like you are doing something wrong then you might want to see what your prioritys are and what you want to do with your life. Then decide what you want and where you want it to take you. Bigger pay is always good but at what price? and if it wans garenteed then it might be worth it but if not then no... Good luck ") |

Wow....I would go to my boss and talk to him. Explain to him that you really love working for this company and you really want to weigh your options before throwing in the towel. Explain that you have an offer right now from another company and they are offering XX amount of dollars and these benefits with growth opportunity but if the same thing can be achieved here I would like to stay....then ask him if this is negotiable? Explain to him what your needs are personally and professionally. This way you are giving him the opportunity to keep you on. If he cannot keep you on then it was their choice to let you go and I would explain it that way. If they cannot meet either in pay or benefits the new company's offer then I would say it was a pleasure working for you and this establishment and I am looking forward to growing in my life personally and professionally. I understand that this establishment cannot meet my growing needs so therefore I have accepted a new position at another firm. Thank you for the many opportunities for experience and growth. Then shake hands. Never burn bridges. |
