Vincent James | Sport Chek or Wal-Mart? |
I have an interview with both of these companies and i was wondering which one of the two i should work for? They are both entry level positions and im guessing its a 'sales associate' position. What do you think i should choose? What would look better on a resume?

Not everyone has a bad career at Wal Mart,so apply for both.
When researching on Yahoo search type these:
1) Pro-Spot Check /2) Pro-Wal Mart /3) Anti-Spot Check /4) Anti-Wal Mart
Yahoo search this: Sam's Club 6625+Management
Read my response and decide for yourself since the internet is also filled with disinformation.
The best bet is to have friends ask employees(include managers) while you observe their response.
Experience is what you need on your resume.
Please do not forget to practice for interviews as Wal Mart gives 3 depending on how many have applied.
Also a cover letter will help a lot than those who just turn in a resume.

If you are offered positions at both, you can compare what they have to offer in terms of wages, benefits, vacation time, opportunities to move up, etc. In terms of how it would look on a resume, that is up to you - what transferable skills you take away. Customer service is good any way you can get it. |

I have never heard of Sport Chek, but if you like a sports atmosphere, that may be better. Also I have heard from people who work at walmart that they are a stingy company and they act funny with raises and all, so they do save for the consumers, but treat some employees bad. Not all though, that is just what I have heard. Dont know about the other company.. |

I work at a Sport Chek in B.C and have for just over a year now. I would say that Sport Chek looks better on a resume as the training you receive for selling in your department is pretty stellar. There are 3 departments, hardgoods, shoes, and clothing and you are trained specifically for your department very thouroughly. Sport Chek is going off commission sales on June 16th, so all staff will by paid hourly wage. Your wage will probably not be that good to start with but there are plenty of chances to move up if you meet budget and prove you can work hard. Good luck! |
