hey...ive been working 4 starbucks for about 1 week and a half...and i really messed up. or at least i think i did. well u know how when u clock out, ur manager is supposed to make sure u calculate ur till? well, since im new at the register, when a customer gave me a 5$ bill, i pressed the 10$ bill button and the worong change appeared...so, when my results for the till appeared, i was short 20& and somethin cents. im soo worried. I swear i didnt steal any money! im sooo scared! will they fire me? |

What you press on the screen doesn't matter as long as you give them the correct change (a.k.a. aren't a moron and can do it in your own head).
No, they won't fire you for being $20 under. You may have accidentally dropped a bill in your co-worker's drop box, in which case it will show up and be reconciled the next day.
If the money is still missing, you'll be held accountable, but not fired. Yet.
If it keeps happening, that's when you should worry. |

I'm certain you'll probably be asked about it and lectured.
I seriously doubt you'll be fired though. Everyone makes mistakes.
I would certainly be more careful though. They won't be pleased if it continues to happen. |

The best thing to do is to go to your boss and let them know what happened. you made a mistake. it happens to anyone who works in retail at some point or another. Just be honest and offer to pay back what is missing and promise to be more careful in the future.
Part of the blame also belongs to the customer who didn't say anything when (s)he got back way more change then they should have. Bad karma points to them. |

I am a shift at Starbucks and let me tell you - though this is not a regular occurence, this DOES happen. Don't stress over it too much, especially if you work at a busy store. If you actually ARE short $20 the following actions may occur:
you could receive a verbal warming from your manager
or
you could receive a write up (it's not too serious however I believe three write up = you're fired [not too sure about that])
But if somehow, you accidentally dropped your 20's in a different drop box, then it'll even out somehow and none of the above will happen...well they might suggest you be more careful but other than that it won't be bad at all.
The most important thing is that your notify your manager and tell him/her wat happened if there are any odd descrepancies with your til.
PS - THEY DEFINITELY WOONT fire you unless you are constantly short/over $5 |

just explain what happened but say you didn't say anything because it was your first week and you felt bad. just tell the truth, im sure that you wont get fired as everyone makes mistakes. |

Just give 'em twenty five dollars (the extra five is just for all the trouble you've caused) and tell them it was an honest mistake. They will understand, don't worry. Just tell them right away or they'll think you actually did steal it. |
