The cameras aren't just there the prevent pilferage, but also for customer safety. There have been shootouts in parking lots in some areas.

I worked at Wal-Mart through college. If you're caught, Wal-Mart always presses charges. On top of criminal charges, Wal-Mart reserves the right to sue you for monetary damages. The video evidence will be used against you. You will be banned from entering any property owned by Wal-Mart. Those who are caught violating this ban will be charged with trespassing. Wal-Mart enforces its policies aggressively, with personel dedicated solely to loss provention.

I am not familiar with Walmart. However, loss prevention policies are common in many businesses (especially those that deal in consumer goods). Such policies are set to:
- mainly deter theft (e.g. cameras, guards etc.),
- instill good practices (e.g. employee forgets to shut coldroom door),
- avoid arguments (e.g. whether an item has been paid or not),
- set compensation or penalty (e.g. if caught shoplifting etc.)

Such policies are meant to protect both the company and the customer and are not to harrass or invade privacy.

All I know is that I've stolen stuff from a Walmart (pick it up, walk around, pocket it, walk out the door style) without being caught.
Sorry if that doesn't help at all... happy burglarizing

It is wrong to steal from WalMart or anyplace. There are cameras placed to take your picture. The policies are to prevent it from happening.

I know someone who ripped off the jewelry department at a Wal-Mart for several months. He had been caught on camera several times, but apparently always slipped out the door before security could get to him. One day they finally got him, and had several pics of him from past thefts. What a jackass.

Instead of wanting to know the Loss prevention policy of wal mart why not learn the admissions policy of your local College. That way you could get an education and make money so you would not have to contemplate on shop lifting at Wal Mart!
