Wow, do Tesco's do pick n mix?

I think it seems a shame that Tesco lost £125 worth of buisness for the sake of a few sweets, but if they had let her get away with it, they would have to apply the same rules for everyone, and it would be chaos. Also, it is not right that somebody who is going to spend a large amount of money, should be dealt with anymore leniantly than someone who was going to spend £1. The same policy should apply for anyone. Anyway, it is only her word that she was going to spend £125. It was probably sour grapes.

She stole the sweets end of story although I think Tesco took an unreasonably hard line. I doubt if it was a lifetime ban just a shock one

she should have paid for them first, different if you are buying a multi pack of something and just eat one but pay for rest at till, but this could be argued with too.

my mum did this in a superstore where by she had to get the sweets weighed first, so that was not too bad either as she did weigh them oprior eating the few sweets, and of course paid for all of them.

It is easy to say you were GOING TO SPEND £125.00. At the end of the day she was stealing.

Netty
Can't honestly blame them for banning her. If she doesn't see that as theft, then she's immoral. It doesn't matter how little she took, or how much shopping she was going to do in the store, or how often she shopped there. Taking something without paying is theft. The ONLY excuse would be if she was destitute and starving -and I mean "starving" as in "hadn't eaten for days".

I've also occasionally seen people eating packets of crisps or sweets on the way round supermarkets, then explaining and paying for the empty pack at the checkout. The intention isn't to steal, but I think it's still very bad behaviour and a terrible example to set children.

Theft is theft.
When our kids were toddlers we often opened a pack of crisps to keep them ocupied whilst we were shopping and paid for the empty bag at the checkout.
Now when they have tasters on the deli counter, thats a different matter, you can bet your life I try everything.

brendan_p_murray
Sounds a bit fanciful. Actually, it sounds like Asda/Walmart trying to bad-mouth Tesco.

Of course she shouldn't have taken the sweets, but I doubt that any store manager would be such a moron as to bar a regular customer.

den
If every customer ate six sweets they wouldn't be long in losing money when you think of all the customers they have.

Theft is theft.

THATS HER STORY,WE COULD ALL SAY THAT

That seems a little harsh for 6 candies. However, Tesco probably looses quite a lot of revenue from people picking up a snack along the way without paying. Theft is a crime and therefore it isn't surprising that they kicked her out. It could have been much worse... prosecution and possible fine/conviction.
