irishswthrt24 | Text messaging in an office? |
Is it appropriate to text message someone who works in an office? I don't know their direct line and I feel like text messaging them would be more appropriate than calling their cell. Is there any kind of rule about this in offices? |

Don't send personal text msgs or call their cell phone when they're at work. Most places of business have rules about not using a cell phone while on company time (unless its business related) and you could get the person fired. My company has a policy...caught 3 times and you're fired. |

Do you mean that you want to send a personal message to a friend? I wouldn't - any kind of personal distraction could get him/her in trouble.
If you meant sending a work-related text message, I wouldn't do that either - it's an unprofessional medium, by nature. |

i would check with the individual and see if they mind, or if they think they're going to get in trouble if someone sees them receiving personal texts on the job. If asking makes you uncomfortable, go ahead and text them, and if there's a problem, they'll let you know. |

It depends where you work. I use text messaging at work because I feel it's more professional than making a personal call at work (I work in the corporate office of a large company), but I've heard other companies are much stricter. |
