Thank you letter?
thank you letter to the entire staff for a good job and their time spent on a project

Uh, is this a question about how to write one or if you should? Anyway, I think a thank you letter would be completely appropriate and probably very much appreciated. So have a go at it! If you need advice on how to, try something like:

Dear Staff Members (or Dept. Members, etc),

It is with great pleasure that I send you this letter, commending you all for the tremendous effort put towards making the (insert project name) project a success! I/We are extremely pleased with the results. Thank you for all your diligent work during these past few days/weeks. I sincerely look forward to working with you in the future. Thank you again.

If you are their boss, probably not. But be sure to sing their praises loudly, especially at review time and to your highers-up.

If you are a customer - yes, please if you would be so kind. People seldom hear praise about a job well done.

I've taken my staff out to lunch as a thank you for their hard work on big projects, given individuals a paid day off for above and beyond work and wrote personalized thank you's. The most important thing is to always tell someone they did a good job at that moment rather than wait for formal reviews or weeks/months later after the fact to hear it.

A simple real-time acknowledgement of good work goes a long way. Just as you would counsel someone immediately if improvement is needed, do the same for accomplishments, too. It doesn't always have to be in the form of a letter. I've also written e-mails when someone performs well on something (even if it's a small project) and copied my supervisor, even the CEO when appropriate.

I keep a pack of note cards in my desk and when its appropriate, I take a few minutes and jot a quick, handwritten, thank you note. You wouldn't believe the response and reaction. Most are so caught off guard that someone would take the time to write a note of appreciation.

The few minutes it takes to write such a note is re-paid exponentially in the motivation and future hard work of the recipient.

Other rewards, such a paid time off and gifts are great. But if you are in a company with limited funds, the personal touch can be just as effective. Most can understand the financial constraint of a business, but that can be overcome by making your appreciate personal.

An individual thank you to each person that worked on the project is a very kind gesture. So is an extra day off.

My last company had these special "Kudo" awards that anyone could jot down a job well done and a thank you and give it to an employee. They'd hang them in their cube like badges of honor.

And yes, announcing it loud and clear to anyone who will listen that they are appreciated.
