Doug Keel, Realtor | The US is focused on quarterly profits; how do we focus on global warming and alternative fuel development? |

Well first we start by reading a little bit about what question we're asking.
Then we get out from under the rock we've been living under.
Then we realize that hey... there's many different types of alternative fuels already being developed. From clean burning coal energy cells, coal synfuel, wind power, solar power, tidal and wave (they're different) power, nuclear power... the list continues. for more information I suggest the following websites:

Accounting methods must come to include the costs of
enviormental degradation through taxation and changes in Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.
They must no longer be an "externality", but be relevent. |

Without quarterly profits, there would be no jobs. Without jobs, there would be no taxes. Without taxes the Democrats wouldn't have anything to steal from me. If global warming is man made, then you are going to have to figure out a way to relocate India, China And Russia to another Planet. They make about 65% of the Pollution. You need to stop listening to socialist teachers and Politicians. You can learn more on your own than from them. |

Unfortunately what you and all the other treehuggers like you don't realize is the funding for all research and developement is driven by Corporate profits. All the progress being made in Drug developement and Alternative Fuel development will only occur if they are driven by corporate profits. No company will spend even $1.00 on R & D unless they can make a profit from the results. So the reality of the situation is that you need quarterly profits to continue to rise so that the research into GW and alternative fuels will continue. |

Quarterly profits and, add to that, military security. We tried here recently to put up a few wind turbines not far from some defense establishment flight restriction areas and were unsuccessful - not to be critical but just to state a fact. I have great respect for how the Armed Forces go about their business and feel that some of the technological prototyping that they accomplish "as if someone's life depends on it" is the envy of all who respect the God-given environment we all share. |
