Some companies reserve the right to let you go at their discretion, which is unfortunate for the employee. Companies who employ good human relations generally give you a specific termination date. I would interpret "through the New Year" as meaning until January 1, but be a bigger person and ask for clarification. Try not to worry.......other doors are sure to open for you!

They will let you know. It is possible they are not sure how long they want to keep you.
It sounds like, your last day would be 12/31, or they might keep you to finish out the week. Take every day of work they give you!

That would indicate that 12/31 is your last day. Ask them to put it in writing.
