finglas9 | The minimum wage is under threat Why ? When the bankers still make fortunes and still get big bonuses ? |
I think it disgraceful when the Bankers are not called to account. They should start at the top earners and members of Parliament. Additional Details To Henry Hedgehog; I am talking about corruption and "pigs in the trough". They are never called to account. The poorest paid and people on benefit are always the targets. Do you accept that the bankers should have a few millions in bonus pay. After all they messed up and we, "the people", are bailing them out. Capitalism works ????????? |

Yes its the Bankers mess investing in the US housing market etc, I think the hike in oil prices early on started a knock on effect, electricity, gas and food price increases, which by the way have not been reduced yet, even though oil is at a really low price, its disgusting
My daughter is in the process of looking for a house but cant afford a 25% deposit.
The Bankers should be sacked with no golden handshakes, anyone else in other lobs would have been sacked.
As for the MPs they talk a good argument but dont deliver. |

the minimum wage is not 'under threat'
there are simply calls for it to NOT be INCREASED.
simply pointing at the fat cats and using them as an example is taking things totally out of context
if the minimum wage is increased it will put immense pressure on small businesses... NOT the fat cats... and it is smaller businesses which are being hit hardest by the current situation
--------------------------------
Just as an example... I work for a multinational... no one here works for minimum wage - everyone is at a rate above minimum wage, even the lower echelons, such as receptionists, mail room staff, etc
we use external contractors for cleaning
the contractors DO pay minimum wage to the cleaning staff. If they had to pay more they would not be able to pass on the extra costs, as they are tied into a contract.... so, they would have to make savings .... ie, people would be made redundant, and the people who stayed would have to do more work to cover
so, who benefits? |

Because the economy is so messed up. |

A failing economy always favors the filthy wealthy... the same as it does when things are going great.
In a failing economy, the wealthiest people are the ones that benefit most from the tens of thousands of unemployed people that are willing to do almost any type of labor at almost any wage at all just in order to keep food on the table....
Watch over the next few months, as the unemployed numbers begin to soar... how the wages for jobs that ARE available drop like stones.
This is inevitable and at this point unavoidable for those that are going to be among the masses that are without wages of any kind....

we are all being shafted you have to accept it the phrases shoulder to the wheel and noses to the grindstone were not coined by workers but by managers who wanted more out of the staff do just what you have to to get by and stuff them all |

Bankers are close to the money, so they can cream off a tiny percentage for themselves. Minimum wage earners are at the bottom of the food chain.
People don't seem to realise that banks are essential to the economy. If they'd collapsed, we'd all have lost out (see Iceland). Rich bankers are a necessary evil. Would you want a poor person running your savings account? |
