This is certainly unfair. Wouldn't you agree?
I work in electronics manufacturing. Myself and others in the manufacturing dept get paid around £5.70/hr, do a min. of 37.5 hours per week and any over that we get paid at our normal hourly rate, unless the managing director asks us to work extra, in which case we get time and a third. I found out yesterday that everyone in the company, except the manufacturing staff, get both a Christmas bonus and a monthly bonus on top of their wages, so while we do all the physical work and get told to work and not talk, and not even get paid a proper overtime rate, everyone else stands around chatting all day, sits behind a desk and laughs all the way to the bank. I feel this is certainly unfair, but what can I do about it?

Forget about negative thinking. The terms of employment are down to negotiation between employer and employee: some people get paid for doing not much, and others have to work hard for their small wages. If you enjoy the job, fine, but if not, keep it until you find a better one. If it means retraining in something else, do that if you wish.

Without meaning to sound uncaring, perhaps you should all be thankful the company hasn't already outsourced the manufacturing to Asia or India.
That might be a good reason to be working on Plan B pdq. Good Luck.

quit and find a new job, but don't get your hopes up, there will be unfair goings on there too.

Get everyone on the manufacturing side to start to assemble everything incorrectly- wiring things up wrong or not soldering properly- and then watch as the company crumbles!! Consumers will return the goods, suppliers will start to go elsewhere, the company name will suffer and its reputation will be in shreds!! Smash the system from the inside! Workers unite!!

Or, you could go find a better job. Good luck :))

I live in South Africa. Minimum hours to work per week is 40. Companies are only liable to pay overtime if you work 50+ hours.
But then again, these are just my sad circumstances.
If the job is important to you, go speak to your manager. Most important question to ask is: can the company afford to pay the man.dept. more?

It may seem "unfair" but there's nothing you can do. What the company does to reward other staff is, unfortunately, up to them. Different contracts, I'd guess.

Move out of manual manufacturing into management then - simple as. Either that or get another job and stop complaining. [shrugs]

You could leave - can you find another job?

Take Flight
The one thing you cannot do is constantly complain at the job. It brings everyone down and you become known as a problem by management making your situation worse. You can bring it up to your boss once in a constructive way. If that doesn't work, look for a new job.

sadly its a fact of life, pen pushers and paper shufflers with university degrees etc sitting up in their offices, will always get paid better than those on the shop floor or factory floor busting their guts, speak to your line manager , and you work collegaues and see what they think as well, in the end all you can do is leave but you may come across the same problem

You are doing well. I work in Japan and often do overtime for no extra money. We all get the privilege of extra hours but few get extra pay.

I work in the United States. Here, if you're really upset about unfairness we have a thing called "Going Postal". Let me explain. Basically, you first discuss the issue with your supervisor. If you get no satisfaction then you talk with his or her supervisor. When you run out of people to talk to and you realize they're not concerned and you need something to get their attention. So, you leave and come back with any one or more communication tools made by Glock, Smith&Wesson, Winchester, H&K, or Remington just to name a few. If you have a lot of money, then you'd want to check out a more assertive means of getting to work. I'd recommend an AH-64 Apache Longbow (with all the bells and gadgets) made by the Boeing Corporation. While they're quite pricey, I tend to think it would be a clear way to express your dissatisfaction and unequivocally end the conversation as you leave. Of course, starting out a conversation with a Smith&Wesson and ending it with an Apache Lowbow isn't going to look good on your resume so you may want to consider another line of work in another town or somewhere. Hope this helps.
