UK is now officially in recession. Why do they need official figures. Why don't they just look around ?
I know it has to be two quarters of reduced productivity but it has been obvious to most of us was was happening before last September

Because our governments are reactionary, not reality based.

You guys are in the same boat as us Americans.

1. Massive off shoring to make the real taxpayers richer (corporations pay the most taxes). Effectively firing the world's best customers as the new employees in third world countries can't afford the products they now produce.

2. Massive immigration-drives down wages and once again makes the real taxpayers richer (so they pay more taxes).

3. Easy & Free credit that was yanked out from under us at the same time as the job situation started to come to a head.

Utopian ideals and greed. Higher tax revenue and lower family earnings.

Grand isn't it?

NuMILF
EXACTLY!

I could of told them were in recession months ago...nobs!

I know. This is what happens when governments pay economist huge sums of money. The gov waits for their answers and comments which is always slow in coming and out of touch. You don't need people with letters behind their names to tell you the state of the country. You simply need to go to poor areas, to local high steets, to community centres and get your answer. Cost less and more realistic, but the gov is not interested in doing that

We are lucky we have very low inflation, otherwise that means we are in a slump.(BBC business News this morning)

Politicians never see what's in front of their nose, or perhaps they won't admit to seeing it. Boarded up shops and people losing their homes and jobs are rather a good indication that all is not well. I feel so sorry for those directly affected. It won't be the politicians who have to suffer, as usual.

I don't see your problem, don't you think the economists knew we would reach recession before today? Of course they did. Its just thats its been made official today which is why its on the news.

Just as if you didnt sit a GCSE exam you know you've failed, but its not official till the results come out.
