I don't have an answer for your first question, but you could check FedEx's site for that answer. I have used both and prefer FedEx over UPS. UPS has lost many many packages on me and since they have been payroll checks, they have caused an enormous amount of work for me with each package lost. They did find one of the packages 2 months later, however it was in Kentucky, it was going to PA from NJ!!
Both companies are considered couriers, they delivery packages. There are also many "private couriers" that will do same day deliveries, within a certain distance.

The shipments from Hong Kong will go through Alaska for both companies. Alaska is the port of entry if it's coming by air, which I assume since you want it in 24 hrs. However, if it's not a letter (documents), it will take at least 48 hrs because any package shipment will have to be cleared by customs. I prefer UPS.
