If you're asking as a potential employee, then, it's not an issue of who's better, but which better matches your needs, aptitude, schedule, and long term objectives.
UPS is a wonderful part-time job for young people, has great part-time benefits, including excellent education benefits. Most new jobs are part-time and many work midnight shift vs daytime shifts. They offer excellent advancemet opportunities for those who want to move up in the ranks of the company, but field operations is the guts of the business, and not an easy world. They are the largest Teamster shop in the country.
FedEx is another excellent part-time employer, which also offers benefits for both part-time and full-time employees. Fed-Ex isn't unionized, and has a different culture than UPS.
USPS is unionized, hires mostly full-time personnel, and is a quasi-governmental organization. Extremely different culture from both Fed-Ex and UPS.
You should interview with both Fed-Ex and UPS. It's quite easy to get interviews as both are hiring all the time at their hubs. I don't know as much about USPS hiring practices, but believe you start with a test, not an interview. I've been inside all three organizations' recruiting worlds, and I think you'll rapidly see the differences in their cultures and philosophies. |
