The credit crunch!
Avoid buying "brand" names, for example, instead of buying Heinz baked beans, buy Tescos own beans - there really isn't a difference.
Instead of buying Hovis bread, buy Tescos bread.
My fiance + I save £25 on shopping now we have stopped buying the big brands.
Try to buy as much as possible from markets, things such as fruit + veg, they are usually cheaper + a lot fresher. |

Do you live alone? If so, £100 is way too much to be spending weekly. Try at least to make the money worth it and buy more healthy food. Don't buy anything you don't NEED. There's 3 of us in my family and it usually costs around £75 for a week. We shop at ASDA. :-P. |

Sounds like you think you're the only person that has noticed it. It's a problem all over the world, caused by rising energy costs and the boom in Asia which has meant that all foodstuffs are in demand.
Add to that the fact that much of the land which should be used to plant crops for food is being used to plant crops to make biofuels and you have a worldwide food shortage.
You'll have to live with it, the same as everyone else. |

The prices are fixed in response to supply and demand.
In other words the sellers are out to squeeze as much profit out of you as they can.
The only way to bring your bills down is to restrict your demands on the supply.
Or by seeking out the cheaper options such as the supermarkets own brands of the food you need to buy.
Where you can take advantage of special cheap offers and stock up in advance but look carefully at the 'sell/best by dates'. |

Dont you read the papers? It's called The Credit Crunch...we're in recession. Also how many are in your house? I spend £40.00 a week for 2 adults and one child! |

Blame Bush and his Administration. They are rich and don't care about the middle and lower class Americans. |

It isn't the credit crunch! Although that might be taking money away from you.
It is because of rising fuel costs and rising demand for food in places like China which is getting richer and competing for the same food. Also the rush to bio-fuels is taking away food and putting it into cars.
A year's supply of grain for one person equals one SUV tank full of bio-ethanol. |

forget tesco for a start, then try the taste test. buy the cheapest version of the things you buy regularly and try to find a difference. For instance a packet of supermarket jaffa cakes may only cost a third or even less than the "leading brand" but may actually taste better and you will find this out with many products. And more importantly a £3 bottle of fabric conditioner that claims to smell of diamonds is no better than a supermarket brand at 60p! |

The price of commodities have gone up substantially in the past year. In particular, Oil,Wheat, Corn and a few others. Therefore transportation costs have gone up and all products that are derivatives of oil, wheat. corn nd rice. |

Fuel, taxes, insurance, supplies, packaging and everything else has increased so of course those increases are passed along to you the consumer. Saving money, get to the library and take out some basic cookbooks and make more meals and snacks from scratch. Stop buying prepared foods. Shop sales and in quantity. |

gas is getting expencive and well the trucks that deliver these products are wasting gas, so the companies who need the products have to pay extra , so that's y they charge more |

Because the price of petrol has gone up, the price of food has gone up because they transport food by using petrol, of course :)
Supermarkets now have to pay extra for the transportation of food, so that's why customers have to pay extra! It's annoying, I know. Yesterday we spent £124 at Sainsbury's!!! |
