Wachovia Bank question?
Is there a governmental branch where you can file a formal complaint against a bank? Two months ago I deposited a $250.00 check in an ATM for Wachovia (my bank). I accidentally keyed in $25.00, leaving off a zero. After checking my account I found this error. This was in May. I called my bank and explained what happened and they basically said there was nothing they could do about the missing $225.00 without proof of the actual deposit (which they should have had). I got a copy of the check which has cleared it's bank and sent it to them. I have spoke with a half a dozen people and no ones seems able to correct this issue. This has been going on for 2 months. Yesterday I got a letter from Wachovia's ATM department stating the case was closed and they were not at fault due to not proving they made an error. I have given them the copy of the $250.00 check weeks ago. My question is..where is the extra $225.00. Please let me know who I can contact besides a Wachovia person. Thanks
Additional Details
Forgot to add that my husband has been to the branch were the ATM machine was and they say he has to go to our branch. A big run-around. The error was at the bank with the ATM. In 35 years I have NEVER had an issue with a bank that took more than 2 calls or one visit. This is nuts!!

If you feel that wachovia isn't taking your issue seriously, report it to BBB(Better Business Bureau). Try to keep as many evidences as you can, the more you have, the better result you will get.

BBB will deal with wachovia for you, however, it takes 1week to 1 month.

Wacovia should have a copy of the check you deposited, ask them to see the copy, you have the right to do so. If wachovia didn't put the same amount of money as it is on check in your acct, it's thier fault for sure.

BBB(Better Business Bureau, www.bbb.org) is what you are looking for. Remember to report it to a branch where the bank is located. For example if the wachovia branch is located in CA, then you have to report it to the BBB branch in CA.

Feeling Mutual
Why do you assume that you keyed in $25 instead of $250, when it might have been a defect in their computerized ATM?

They have your money. Keep talking to managers, call the CEO if necessary.

switch to bank of america. that situation would have been resolved in one (two at the most) calls, if you even needed to call, because they usually catch it on the spot and fix it.

When I have a problem with Wachovia, I go in person to the branch, if I can't solve it over the phone. My problem seems to get resolved when I go in person.

Bring your proof to the bank and ask to speak with a manager. Remain polite and confident and you should get a good response from them.
