momoftwo | Wal-Mart? Good or bad? |
Was at Wal-mar t to buy hair dry price was set at $14.99 got to the check out counter it rung up at $23.99. I was told they could only give me $3.00 of the orginaly price. Then the manager took me back and took the price off the shelf. Was I wrong to fuss about it or should I just had payed 20.99 for it? |

no you were not wrong! I would have fought til I got the price that was on the shelf. If they wouldn't budge I would leave without the item and than file a complaint on their customer service website. Trust me, it makes you fell a whole lot better to let the higher ups know what a crappy job some employees do because they don't like their jobs! |

We do not know in what jurisdiction the store was found. Some jurisdictions allow a retailer to change incorrect prices whenever they are discovered, some do not.
There is nothing inherently wrong in having the vendor free to correct prices. But many people do become accustomed to rules where they can not, and will feel abused when the vendor does it. Some people will go so far as to lunch a lawsuit. But success of the lawsuit will depend on what laws are in operation.
In effect, a vendor can remove an item for sale when an error is discovered, change the shelf price, then put the item back on sale. Customers really believe that the price was whatever it was, but when they get to the shelf the price has been changed. Now, that is nasty. Better to simply tell me the shelf price was in error, and leave me the choice to buy at the right price, or not buy.
Shelf prices are now often qualified with a date range, so that the sale item goes off sale price at the end of the end date. That practise leaves us with a wrong impression of price because we fail to read the date qualification.
But there is not an intent to deceive if the date range is prominently displayed with the price.
However, if I get caught failing to read the date range, I am likely to decline to buy at the cash, if i notice it. |

You were right. My favorite grocery store repeatedly has the wrong price on the shelf. I guess they have a sale and when the sale is over they don't always change the price. At the counter then I have the same problem you had though insist on getting the shelf price. Stand your ground. |

I would have done alot more than just fuss!! They are required by law to give you the shelf price. It's not your fault that someone forgot to do price changes. The manager could have taken the price tag off the shelf AND still given it to you for $14.99. |
