Unless the product is defective, it goes right back on the shelf. If it doesn't have a box (dvd players, tvs, etc.) it is usually sold "as is" or marked down to make it more desirable to the customers. With the TMX Elmos, I would put it on EBay and see what you can get from that! |

Worked there years ago. The practice then was to put back anything that could be re-boxed and was not damaged. Anything else (damaged) was returned to mfg. for credits. |

If the item is not defective and is okay for resale it will just be put back on the shelf.
If the item is defective or cannot be resold for some reason it will go back to the manufacturer for credits.
In very rare cases where they feel they can get no credit for the merchandise it will be written up as a loss and destroyed. |

How could they make money by discarding returned items?Thousands of dollars worth of merchandise is returned each day,if not more,in one store location alone. They would lose millions of dollars. If a returned item is not broke or is not intimate i.e used breast pumps, any thing with a seal that has been broken,or if an item is noticeably used, they wont return it to the sales floor. |

Well, I've returned several items to big Wally over the years due to malfunctions or broken parts. When I went back later, they were all back out there on the shelves. I guess they figure it's better to try and sucker someone else into buying it than to eat the cost or send it back to the manufacturer. |

When a customer returns an item they are asked if there is anything defective and if that's the reason for the return. If there is a problem with it, it is put into claims and returned to the manufacturer for credit. If there is nothing wrong with the item it is put into the throwback bins, along with all the other stray items around the store that have gone up to the courtesy desk to be sorted back to the appropriate department. I have no idea why someone told you they destroy anything that's returned. That's absolutely crazy. Even though the store gets credit for claims items, it's still shrink and loss for the store, which is not good. They wouldn't create anymore loss than necessary. |

If a item is unopened and sell able it will be returned to the self. Wal-mart has set up return policies with each of its suppliers. Some of the items they will get credit back, some partial. Most stuff is returned to its central claims warehouse around the country for processing, and returned to the supplier. I'm some cases if a item cannot be returned to the supplier they will put it out "as-is" to try and make something off the item. |

If the product is still being produced they wills send it back to the company that made it. If the product isn't in production they will probably throw it away. |
