I can give you plenty of pro-walmart things. I spent 11 years working at the corporate office.
1. I had outstanding benefits.
2. They paid me very well.
3. The training they provided me helped me start my own business.
4. When I left after 11 years I had collected about 9000 shares of WMT stock through Employee stock purchase and bonuses. Worth over $500,000.
5. Even at the retail level, some bonehead can get a job pushing carts for 8 bucks an hour, work hard for a few years, become a manager and make 6 figures without a college education.

When Sam Walton died and his son took over, I think that is when WalMart became a bully. I don't think they realize how much they hurt the small businesses in America, as well as retail chains like Circuit City, Linens and Things, Mervyns (all 3 are closing stores.) And now they are attacking places like Best Buy, Petsmart, Petco with their current ads asking "why spend more at the other places? We have the same name brand electronics/pet food/etc. for a lower price." |

I don't hate walmart because of the small businesses, small businesses survive depending on the market needs, we are a capitalist country after all. Small businesses used to be great when people wanted personalized attention, but times change and people want CHEAP products which is why Walmart became a gigant.
I am all for capitalism. The reason I don't like Walmart is because of the way they treat their employees and the numerous lawsuits against them for discrimination and explotation, how is it possible that a multibillionaire company is so cheap their own employees lack medical or have to complement their income with food stamps and medicaid? We are supporting Walmart employees with our tax money, it is unethical.
Personally I don't shop at Walmart because it is not that cheap, the clothes they sell will last you a few months if you are lucky, the quality of their products is really bad, and as far as electronics and other things they aren't marvelously cheap either, you can buy the same things in Amazon for the same price.
But you gotta give it to Walmart, they have people believing they are VERY cheap, their marketing is genious and they are number one , no doubt about it. It's an excellent example of what capitalism is all about. |

I love Walmart. GREAT prices, allows lower class family to afford things that they could not for other stores. The Waltons (founders of Walmart) are also christians, if that matters to anyone.
People started hating walmart when they had to work there and didnt make 10 an hour like they think they should. |

People started hating Walmart when they started carrying everything at lower prices putting other businesses out of business because of the fact that Walmart is a "one stop shop" and no one could compete with the low prices.
But people like me appreciate the low prices and the "one stop shop " because I like going one place to find all that I need. So convenient.

I hate Wal-mart because of the way they run business, They are the biggest Corporation in the world and they got that way by encouraging american business to outsource jobs so that they can by at a lower cost. they also make billions a year and don't take care of their own employees they often encourage employees to file for government assistance and they make their health care package unaffordable for most employees.
The retard above worked in the offices, no one gets 6 figures at walmart outside the offices and ill bet if you talk to a walmart cashier they will tell you just how affordable their health care is! |

Walmart offeres some fantastic prices. Many people dislike the fact that one reason they are able to offer low prices is because the workers are underpaid. Not sure if they truley are paid less than other stores like Target but even if so, the workers choose the jobs, they arent slave workers. In addition, the store looks like cr*p. Its not an enjoyable place to shop, its dull looking and cluttered, whereas other stores obviously put more money into decor. However, the prices are mostly ideal and its wonderful that things are more available to those who couldnt otherwise afford certain items.
As far as small business. I like to support them and if prices are fair, I may choose those shops over any chain. However, walmart shouldnt be blamed, consumers choose to shop where its convenient,affordable and reliable. |
