Wal Mart getting rid of Customer Service?
For example, I notice at our local Super Wal Mart only has 4 or 5 checkouts (out of like 30) open on a Saturday, and the cashiers don't seem happy or talkative anymore. They also seem reluctant to put the bags in my cart anymore, though I am busy with my 2 kids age 4 and 6, writing a check, etc.
They look at me funny, so I look around to the other checkout lines and I notice some of the other customers are doing the employee's job for them.
What is going on? Are the cashiers just getting lazy or is Wal Mart just tired of being nice to the customers? I don't get it...

You know, we still have a store here in town that not only bags your groceries for you AND puts them in your cart - they take it a step further and push your cart for you out to the parking lot. Not only that, but then they put the groceries in your truck for you and take your cart back inside and put it away for you. NOT ONLY THAT, but for an extra $5 they will deliver them TO YOUR HOUSE for you. The prices are comparable, many times cheaper than Wal Mart, especially for meats stuff. This store is an IGA chain called Handy Foods, and they are very profitable. And he is a direct competitor for Wal Mart.
I guess that's why I have a hard time understanding why Wal Mart wants to cut all this stuff back, especially with all the volume they do, and the money they can afford to open up new stores - how are little stores like IGA able to have superior customer service and prices, and still make so much money?

Same problem with our local Walmart - the company has become a mega fortune 500 corporation - Sam Walton's dream of a family store with USA products is long gone, customer service is gone. The shelves at our store are empty most of the time. They can't get and keep good employees because they are being screwed over. We have talked to some of the cashiers - their pay is miserable and their hours are ridiculous in addition to ridiculous company policies. There was a special on a cable news channel recently about Walmart - if you ever get to see it when it is repeated, you will be shocked to learn what goes on with them now, especially the workers in China who make 25 cents an hour, have to live in special furnished houses and who can not ever quit or will be thrown on the streets homeless. Also, actual Walton family members are no longer on the boards, they turned it over and all they do is collect profit as share members. It is a shame but as long as we keep shopping there, they get richer. Unfortunately we live in a very small town and Walmart is the only choice unless we drive two hours and with gas, that is not feasible either. Walmart drove out all the mom and pop grocery stores and discount stores too. It is a shame. I could write a book on that subject but they could care less, the bottom dollar is all that counts. (kind of like the gas and oil companies)

I don't get it either. I assume that Wal Mart is making so much money that they don't really care if we are happy or not. They have us over a barrel and know we'll just continue to come back for more crappy treatment. I hate going in there but I always end up back. Where I live they never have enough lanes open either. I was there one morning and only 1 was open that wasn't express. Needless to say there were like 5 people with cartfulls of stuff. Plus the people out on the floor are never nice and helpful. They walk in your way and never make an effort to move over or ask if they can help you. I hope someday someone will put Wal Mart out of business. We need customer service again. It would be so nice to get back to.

Wal-Mart is known for using certain schemes and tactics to keep employees frustrated and needing more hours.

They also are known for caring less about customers and caring more about a buck. They believe because they save you dollars they are helping community. I guess now they think thats enough customer service for one company. Too bad the ACTUAL SERVICE SUCKS!

Just look on their website, at the bottom they have a running tally of how many dollars the world has saved by shopping at wal-mart. The reality is the family that owns the shitstablishment made 50+ billion last year and donated less than 100,000. Sad.

Sure you saved superficially on the retail end. But the stress and shortcomings with those involved in production and maintenance of Wal-Mart corp. are making all of us pay extra in the long run. Trust and believe.

Oh, and the whole thing about 5 lanes being open wile you have 30 cash registers is common at all wal-marts because they only want more cashiers for CHRISTMAS! But for most of the year they want you to have to wait in the line, think about something else you need, buy some gum. Anything to keep you in the store longer. Truth.

With that being said, I had to buy some steel toes for work the other day and went there. So I'm no activist or anything. I just keep up with why the american lifestyle is so SCHITTY!!!

Peas.

My son and his girlfriend both work at walmart. Also, others who have worked there say the morale is horrible and there is the typical mis-management of employees to where two bosses tell one employee to do two different jobs at one time. I don't believe that it is laziness, it is just lack of enthusiasm for their job. And for the $8.55 per hour that my son makes (after working there for 5 years), he puts up with a lot. His college is almost finished, so he should be leaving there real soon.

Check your receipts. There i a good reason why the prices go up and down.

By the time you see that they have over charged you and you make it back to the store - the price[s] have changed.

At out WalMart, the cashiers have never put your bags in the cart for you. The customer is always expected to pick up their bags and put them in their cart.

The walmart employees are not being paid well and no one wants to be a cashier. The cashier position at any department store is difficult because there are many rude customers. The cashiers are not talkative because there are too many customers waiting in line and they know to speed up the process or get yelled at. The cashiers are not lazy, but just very tired.

Its Wal-Mart, what do you expect. Most stores don't put your bags in your cart for you unless there is a courtesy clerk present (Someone who's job is specifically to bag your groceries and place them in the cart), and Wal-Mart does not even employ courtesy clerks.

I am sorry, but this question just shows how lazy people are getting these days. Once you pay for them, they are your groceries, so what is the big deal about being required to place them in the cart yourself?

It has nothing to do with being lazy what if you are a senior lady? My hubby in Canada is a Superviser for the main warehouse here for IgA and Sobeys. All their veggies are super fresh daily as well as baked goods ect..people flock to these stores because they will get bang for their buck and very friendly people not afraid to bag and put in your cart, TAKE THAT WALMART, YOUR PRICES WERE CHEAP BUT THEY HAVE GONE SKY HIGH, YOU WON'T LAST 2 YEARS WITH THE ATTITUDE YOU HAVE!
