Wal-Mart really about Helping?
I have a great question for everyone..Is Wal-Mart realy about helping the poor and more unfortunit? After all whats it cost to get into Sams Club in order to by BULK for large familys? I must admit though they do have some large/bulk Items at the regular Super Centers.
Look at where the one and only Sams Club store is located in Spfd.Mo.. That would be on the south side of town where, let's face it..The richier luckier citizens live. Bet you don't see many "OLD RUN " down cars in the parking lot either.. I wonder WHY that is? Hummmmm... Can you help me??

It appears your primary gripe is with the Sams Club, which is all about selling quality bulk items to people who can afford it. It does tend to appeal to those who are somewhat successful. Walmart, on the other hand, is the store that targets the poor.

Both faces of the same corporation are about the same thing: profit. In a capitalist economy, profit is the name of the game. Neither Sams Club nor Walmart care about helping anyone beyond their own bottom line. But, to speak more directly to your question: the answer is NO. Walmart isn't about "helping the poor." Walmart is about making as much money off the poor even as it devastates their communities, kills off all the local businesses, pollutes the local environment, and cheats the workers of their labor rights.

This, of course, is just my opinion, but funny...I'm not the only person who seems to think this.

Wal-Mart has moved into my area which is classified as low-income and retirement area. When Wal-Mart moved in here they made it sound like a good thing, but believe me they aren't..They pay minimum wage, the cost of your health insurance is high. If you do take the lesser costing insurance they cover very little and you pay high co-payments. They worked very hard to where every other store that gave them any competition was run out of town. Now their prices have jumped so much to where you don't save anything. If you want to shop at other stores you have to go about 25 to 30 miles away. Most of their employees are lazy and rude. Management does nothing about it.. They just say OH WELL! GO SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE. They know that it is hard and that we have no choice but to shop there. If you for some reason loose your job, they do not pay you your profit sharing check, they do not pay you any hours that you have accumulated. They just screw you 7 ways to Sunday. The best thing that can happen is that they loose profits, and be stopped from being able to build more stores.

all in all Wal-Mart sucks.

i have money and i shop at walmart. It's because you don't have to be poor to want a good deal on something. Why pay more at other stores?

Walmart helps impoverished people since their prices are low but apparently having a Walmart open in your neighborhood drives down the standard of living. That is why Manhattan does NOT want a Walmart to open there. But times change and whatever the populace wants, gets. Build it and they will come.

Sam's Club is for people who really want bulk bargains and pay for it... It caters to a different audience.

walmart helps other countries by importing junk.

Wal-Mart is a corporation just like any others. They get tax write offs for business expenses when in reality we as consumers think they are helping individuals. These marketing campaigns Wal-Mart puts out are an effort to get us to shop at their stores. By helping the poor overseas, they are becoming richer. They are essentially setting a brand image to the consumers by showing that they care.

If you don't like Wal-Mart, avoid shopping there. Instead support small-businesses because at this moment, no one can compete with Wal-Mart

I don't believe Walmart is all about helping. Maybe when the company first opened, but now I see it as another money hungry corporation. They don't ever have sales, they say they "roll back prices." I shop at Target because I like it more and it's a personal choice. They have friendly staff and they have great sales. For my husband and I it is all about the experience. I know that they create jobs which is good but it is the last place that I would ever want to shop. They also have a tendency to monopolize over the competition, but from what I understand a store like that encourages you to spend more money. You end up picking out things that you don't need. It is more simple to go to the grocery store so you aren't coerced into buying things because they have rolled back the prices.

You've got to be kidding me. Whoever gave you the idea that Wal-Mart helps poor people? It does the opposite. The only reason they give you such "deals" is so that you shop there. The discounted items are to make their bottom line better. That's it.

And Wal-Mart puts small, family owned business out of business. That's why so many towns/citizens fight when a Wal-Mart goes up in their town. Their items are cheap because it's bulk and in turn - it puts small companies out of business.

It hurts the poor, not helps.
