dodgeneonracer95 | Wal*Mart really that bad? |
I have an interview tomorrow for a cashier at WalMart. Just alittle knock around job just until a warehouse in my area is ready to open where I will be working. My question, Is Wal*Mart really that bad to work for? I heard they treat their employees like slaves and they wont pay overtime even if you work overtime? Did they make any changes to correct this? |

No, it isn't bad to work for. No, they don't treat their employees like slaves.....but WHY would you apply there if that's what 'you heard' YES they pay overtime IF you work overtime, and they DONT make you work overtime if YOU do NOT want to! However, if you do want to and it is available you can! If you work on Sunday they pay you $1 per hour more ie..and 8 hr. day will give you $8 more. If you work on a holiday you WILL get paid time & 1/2. If you do work overtime you get paid time & 1/2 after the 10th hour, after the 12th hour you get paid double time...this is Calif. I don't know what other states laws are concerning this. But, remember no matter what, it is a LAW and they will obide by the laws.
The reason they have all these lawsuits is because they have DEEP pockets, and a lot of scum-sucking bottom feeders come to work just to sue a big company because they're too fricken lazy to actually work. And, that applies to all big co. not just Wal-Mart.
As for human rights........Wal-Mart raises millions of dollars every year for Childrens Miracle Network, Give Kids The World, and Special Olympics. They also support local charities & lolcal non-profit organizations. All the diapers that some pig opened to take one out so they could change their kid - those and other items get donated to local womens shelters. During Back-To- School, they donate school supplies to local schools and give back-packs full of supplies to needy kids. At Christmas time, they donate bikes to charity or to the local police stations to give to kids. I could go on and on with the list of people and organizations Wal-Mart helps. Most other retailers do a lot for their community and for world wide organizations.
As far as health care, they have medical, dental, stock purchases if you choose to participate...they have a 401K that you don't have to put money into, but they still will. They have life insurance, AD&D insurance.
You chose a good company to work for. It will be stable through this economy when all the other ignorant people who are too good to spend their money there (yeah right, they all say that)! are losing their jobs.... |

Of course not its just another retail store, its just a successful one so people take pot shots at it all the time for the sport of it.
Most retail stores don't do overtime, in fact I don't remember any doing so unless there was a special project going on like inventory.
So talk to your interviewer about overtime they will tell you if that is something that happens or not. |

By law they have to pay overtime, so that is not true. They are in trouble in a number of states by not allowing workers paid breaks. I dont like Wal Mart because they pay less than other retail places and provide fewer benefits. Also it is a 24/7 type of workplace which sucks a lot. However, it is a job and will provide income, so I say go for it if it is convenient. |

WalMart is no more evil than any other corporation. Ask all these questions before you accept the job, and during your interview, you have the right to know what conditions you work under. And you have the right to refuse anything you like, what they do is their business, just watch out for yourself. |

They are dreadful. Yes, they treat employees badly. However, as an interim job, hey, it pays and you were hired. It'll be great experience. |

well they need more people but they wont try anything and you can't get them to pay you overtime but they'll gladly pay you your salary. try it if you want but i'm not so sure about healthcare |

Walmart is not a good place to work. They are currently facing more lawsuits from employees and ex-employees than any other company in the nation. They do not treat employees fairly and they will try to cut corners any chance they can get. They have been known to lock employees in store overnight and they often do not provide adequate advancement opportunities for women. Honestly, you can do much better than Walmart. Try Kmart. |

ofcourse this is true. they don't allow people to work full time so they dont have to give them benefits. they don't pay you overtime either. this is why everything is so fuc|<ing cheap there. i cannot stand walmart. i have only been there a handful of times because i refuse to give my money to crooked a$s organizations. HUMAN RIGHTS ? walmart is definitely not a supporter. not to mention almost every employee at my local walmart is mentally challenged. |
