I live in a small town, so no WalMart. But the city just 35 miles away has two supper centers and I love one stop shopping. |

They tried to put a walmart where i live, the city wanted NOTHING to do with it.
I kind of think that a walmart will put local business' out of business.
Pharmacys, drugstores, toystores, etc.
Generally, i think wal-mart brings a different group of people. I feel like bums and all that are drawn to walmarts.
I live in LITTTLE valley, the casino here is bad enough, i DONT need a walmart. |

It will bring in tax dollars but wal mart usually gets away with no obligations to the towns they destroy except for the huge turnover rate because it's a bad job with a low pay rate and they think they have the right to fire you if you talk about a union because you want a good wage you can live on and affordable health care since there are no other jobs nearby. It only helps wal mart not the town when they build. They say they are all American but they make all their junk in China. Also if you have a low crime rate you will slowly see it increase. |

I am a manager for wal-mart - walmart as a corporation focuses on approving towns. A regular walmart will open roughly 300 jobs and a super walmart will open a potential 600 jobs.
Contrary to rumors, walmart is a great company to work for. They pay very well, and have great benefits. |

Whenever a Wal Mart is planned in a community you will have the illiterate and uneducated fighting it. It seems the greedy mom and pops who sell items for $5.00 that are worth 50 cents don't like the competition. Or you will have the Albertsons who pay their employees double what they are worth because it is so easy to pass the cost on to the poor consumer because they have no choice. Most of the time common sense prevails and the Wal Mart opens regardless. Sometime the idiots prevail and the town loses. There is always the argument about crime. This is nonsense studies show that when a Wal Mart opens up crime actually goes down. What they should say if they want to argue truthfully is that they believe they should be protected from competition.
If mom and pops just tried to compete instead of thinking they deserve a monopoly we would all be better for it. If you are afraid that the economy is going down blame the uneducated voters who voted for democrats in the last election. Spending trillions of dollars on social programs for the unemployed is not only bad for the economy it is just plain stupid. To the poster below who talks about Iraq I have this to say. If Clinton would have taken care of Sadam and Bin Laden when he had the chance instead of worrying about Yugoslavia we would not be in Iraq today. That is a fact. Still want to know how Yugoslavia was a threat to the US or what weapons of mass destuction they had.
Those who haate Wal Mart are the uneducated and those who could not complete an economics class for first graders. |
