WalMart...your opinion!?
What do you think of this store ?(almost a monopoly as far as stores in the same league)
Is it good for the American economy?
Does it knock out other businesses?
Would you want a WalMart store on your block?
Do you like it, because it saves money?
What's your opinion?

I enjoy the convenience of Wal-Mart. But, I've heard so much negativity concerning this company.
Something major has come to my attention and has happened in the town where I live. A already large well established Wall-Mart decided they want to have a larger store. The area they chose to build this larger store happened to be on land where a trailer park was thriving , where HUMAN BEINGS did habitat successfully and happily - I must add , a place where some HUMAN BEINGS had resided for many years , a well established community . Luckily I did not reside in this area, and now neither do those established HUMAN citizens. I stress the word HUMAN because this was not an uninhabited undeveloped area - actual living PEOPLE, conducting daily HUMAN activities were force to find somewhere else to live because the WALL-MART company wanted a larger store ! My opinion of Wall-Mart is gradually depreciating.

Kmart for decades always had about the same selection ,but they knocked hell out of even them. There was this Kmart in my town and already a walmart, but they moved a half mile down the road just to be next to Kmart, bought the land and built on it just to knock them out of business. Walmart is evil

I think Wal-Mart has gotten away from its core values. I don't think its good for our economy because the manufacturing jobs are sent to other countries. would i want a Wal-Mart on my block? not really, im glad they put them out in the boonies. it makes for a nice drive and an excuse to get out of the house. Wal-mart doesn't knock out other businesses bc their quality of some items isn't that great, and in some places you get items lower than what wal-mart is offering.

Well, I grew up in rural America ...

And, I am a big fan of Walmart.

Yes, I know the argument that the local 'Mom and Pop' stores are often driven out of business because Walmart offers far more products at really low prices ...

But, the other side of this is..

It provides products to communities that would otherwise not see them.

It is often the only retail store within a reasonable driving distance from millions of buyers.

It is sometimes the only employer around in some of the more remote areas...

It is convenient, inexpensive and ... without it.. the quality of life in many parts of rural America would be significantly reduced.

Finally, I've heard that it has a negative impact on the economy, but from my own experience, it seems to have helped the economy of the two small towns that built them near me (and near my parents). The number of restaurants increased significantly after they were built and there were several other retail stores that popped up in one of the towns (video store, 2 banks, radio shack, a hair-place and a nail place). More people were coming 'into town' to go to walmart, and more people ate lunch and did other things while they were 'in town'. I know that was the case for me and my family.

I have a Walmart less than 2 miles from my house, and I have no problem with it. I shop there about once a week.

We have quite a few around here I like it because it saves me money and they pay their employees more than local stores such as target an miejers actually several dollars more per position.

It is not union and people around here protest it all the time but meijers is and i worked there and they pay minimum wage and only give nickle increases if you are lucky but they have a union so it is okay. The same people shop at target which is non union and don't have a problem with it.

I don't really know if it is good for the economy but there are a lot of people out there with very low paying jobs and can't afford to shop just anywhere.

No I would not want a store on my block because of the traffic the ones we have right now are not in residential areas they are near but the homes are sheltered they are next to car dealerships and small stores and cinimeas and resturaunts

My over all opinion is they are great but would be even greater if they shared some more of the wealth with thier employees while they are paid better than what is standard in our area I know the company could afford more
