Wow. I just took some time and read over the Wal-Mart facts section of that site. It covers everything from wages to port security!
I live in North Dakota and there are only about 650,000 people in the entire state. Bismarck is the second largest city in the state and a couple of years ago they closed down their Wal-Mart and brought in not one, but TWO Super Wal-Marts. Businesses in Bismarck closed as a result of it because they couldn't find people to work for them.
Bottineau, ND is also getting a Super Wal-Mart in the next year or so despite protests from residents of that town. Bottineau isn't that big but gets a lot of Canadian traffic. A store there will probably do well because of the out of town traffic coming in, but it will crush many of the small businesses which have been in place for years.
I have to be honest with you, looking over that site makes me think twice about whether or not I'll be doing my shopping there in the future. Sure, it's convenient to be able to get a sack of potatoes and a pair of shorts all in one trip, but at what cost?

Wakeupwalmart is a group created by the unions. They are trying to make bad publicity for Wal-Mart to limit their expansion and keep the grocery markets the majority. Which is funny because when you see the stocks that unions hold, they all have HUGE amounts of Wal-Mart stock!
Imagine the unions getting 20 bucks from every Wal-Mart employee every month for doing nothing the employee's can't do themselves. That is why WakeupWalmart.com exists... GREED by the unions. |

In the big picture, Walmart actually is good for America. Walmart makes small towns and help to keep them going. But why Walmarts are needed in big cities, such as Chicago, I will never understand. But Walmart is not the only evil big box store, K Mart was the first and Target followed as well, so those stores ought to be lumped in the arguement against these types of stores, but are often over looked because they are not as omnipresent (or succesful) as Walmart. Bottom line is Walmart would not exist and would not be as successful if not for a demand from the American public, so there must be enough good there to keep all those people from staying out of their store. Either that or American's have zero principal and regardless of how much they complain will do anything to save a few dollars. And in that case I don't want to hear their hypocritical cries. |

walmart was great when SAM walmart was alive he made sure that they did not compromise the thing that was in the store.. it a shame when the person puts so much of them self in to something and when they die it go to pot.. i go to walmart because it is the only place that open 24/7 and i shop at night b because of my work hrs. but that's the only reason.. |

Good for some Americans--the super rich, the poor--but for America, I think it has been proved that capitalism has created the dangerous state of world affairs today; the resources crises; the poverty crises; the environmental crisis's; the global unequal distribution of wealth....Though Wall-mart may be following the rules of the Establishment, it is the number one corporate employer in the country, with less then 40% of it's employees having access to healthcare; And, it's mangement erning more then 10 times the amount of the vast majoriy; with upper managment pulling in 2000 times that.
Wall-mart is just a big in-your-face example of the direction of American corporate interprises; regardless of the direction thier founders intended, capitalism at it's worst ultimatly prevaled. Wall-mart is as bad for the country as are most of the politicians, most of the corporate lawyers(soon to be the nation's judges), most of the legislatures, most of the other corporate enterprises. |

Wal mart is not dangerous. I would stop reading socialist propaganda like "wakeupwalmart.com". The people running that site are probably just walmart's competitors. We live in a capitalist society. Walmart started a company that buys goods in bulk so as to offer low prices, and now that they have success, so people think they are dangerous to our society. It's sad. I really don't like going to wal mart, but "wakeupwalmart.com" makes me want to go and buy as much as i can from walmart. |
