smileIG | We`ve had it in england for 6 months but is "self checkouts" in supermarkets the way forward? |
I went to get a few bits and bobs from tesco and was queing in the check out when one of the staff said use the self check out and i said i did`nt know how to use it, the assistant did it for me, i checked everything and looked at my reciept and was quite impresed untill she said your notes come out of the bottom and sometimes people forget them and the tray is so small you can`t see the note until you put your whole hand in to get it, should`nt be used or better designed for convienince your thoughts please |

I use the selfcheck out facility when I only have a few things to get. Not sure if I would be that keen if I had a trolley load of shopping though.
Yes the notes compartment should be at eye level not below the checkout point...I have too have almost walked out without
my change in notes ......easy done.
Just on a point of preference..ASDA's self check out I find perferable to Tesco's but I prefer shopping at Tesco's...... what a moan eh! |

Champagne suspended a 5th time.
 |
Oh i used it once but never again. I bought a bottle of wine but couldn't go through until i had a member of staff confirm that i was over 18. It was a busy Saturday and i waited almost 15 minutes for that member of staff to come. Grrrrr
Lol at Ruthie - maybe it's not so bad after all! |

i use them most of the time but it really pees me off when you scan alcohol and it announces it to the whole supermarket verification required or whatever the wording is.
and sometimes you get a few freebies!! |

it's good cause you can scan coupons in whether you bought the product they're for or not, genius! |

Self Checkout have been around in the UK for about THREE YEARS!!! I don't know where you've been!!!
You are right though... the notes should come out near the top so you don't forget them.
I think they put them down low for people in wheelchairs. |

Had them in our Tesco for a couple of years, excellent when you know what you're doing, frustrating when you're stuck behind some daft old soul who dithers around wondering what to do. I agree, the note dispenser is in a stupid position. And as for that bloody stupid woman saying "Please take your shopping" . . . . |

The idea is to save money on checkout staff. I know what you mean about the notes coming out at the bottom, you not only can forget them, but some light fingered sroat could take them while you are stood there waiting! |

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥

I didn't have a problem with retrieving my change as I used a laser card but I can see that this would be a problem if you were in a rush and forgot to check properly.
I refuse to use the self-service checkouts in Tesco Ireland any more, it takes ages to find the barcodes and there is always something that won't scan or scans wrong and you have to get someone to help you. Plus this annoying woman's voice keeps telling you things like "have you scanned your clubcard" or "place your item in the bag" when I have already put it in my bag !
If Tesco gave you extra clubcard points for saving them having to employ so many till operators I might consider it but until then I will just queue up like everyone else. |

We've had them in FL for years. In fact some places got them and then got rid of them again. Maybe some day. There just seem to bo soo many problems with them still. |

Yes it is, but there is no way that it will replace Human sellers as well.

i hate them. i bring my own bag when i go shopping, but the comp always senses its heavier than a carrier bag and tells me to get someone to verify etc. it takes me ages to use them - never again |

Yes, it is. Less overhead and hopefully lower prices, since they are egoing up now. Think about it. : )
There is good & bad to every situation. Pluses and minuses. |
