Stock is classified as Preferred or Common stock. The difference are as follows:

Preferred:
Not allowed to vote
Given preference over common stock in the issuance of dividends
Receives a fixed dividend

Common:
Has voting rights
Receives non-fixed dividend. Or no dividends at all.
