Al C | What's the best way to get rid of the auditors quickly and have a clean audit report? |

I'm going to assume you are talking about independent auditor (the ones your company hires to audit your books, not the ones sent to you by a governmental unit). I'm an auditor, a CPA, the one that your company's management or its board voluntarily usually hires.
If you want to get rid of me because I'm in your way, do it by helping me get what I need to get out of there. I want to get my jobs done as fast as you want me out of there. But if you are are going to treat me bad and put obstacles in my way, that is only going to frustrate me and I'm going to purposely dig deeper and make the process more difficult than it needs to be for you and then I'm going to tell your boss that you didn't cooperate with the audit process, and I'm going to top it off with extra billings to compensate my firm for the inefficiencies you created for us.
But if you are trying to get rid of me because you are stealing or defrauding your company, then pray to whatever god you believe in that you don't get caught because you'll end up in jail when we discover your theft.
Not trying to be smart. Just honest, from one professional trying to do his job to another. Courtesy goes both ways. |

Be completely honest and forthcoming, year after year, no matter how much it hurts. Auditors get frustrated when they can't find dirt (because they usually can) and although they will make their audits last what seems like a lifetime the first few years, the reputation of honesty, if clung to fanatically, will eventually send them packing fairly quickly most years. |

my best friend is an auditor. i am going to tell you, they don't like to be at your place any more than you like them being there. if you keep everything up to date and they don't find anything, the audit process will go a lot more quickly. you should be sure all your balance sheet accounts tie out. make sure your cash accounts are reconciled and that your receivables and payable are correct. keep proper back up for everything (all your expenses paid should have proof). the better your back up is and the more thoroughly you do your job, the faster they can do theirs. be cooperative with them. if they are looking for information be sure to get it to them as soon as possible. you also want to have a good sent of internal controls which will help prevent fraud. if you have segregation of duties it will be harder for one person to commit fraud. just keep in mind auditors are not the enemy. |
