I'd just say.
"I'm sorry sir, but I think I'm going to have to give you my two weeks notice."
then explain your reasoning. But if your quitting because you boss or something is rude, you should just quit on the spot and say you know what, I've had it and i don't think i need to take this.... I QUIT!

It depends on where you work. If you work at McDonald's then ask your boss for a second and give him a verbal week or two notice. If it's more of a professional setting then a written letter is a must.

A resignation letter a minumum of 2 weeks before is the usual HR standard. 4 weeks in advance is best to give them time to find a replacement. |

Tell your boss 2 weeks in advance of course. Say you feel that you need to explore other options and that you appreciate the opportunity to work for them (do this so you'll get a recommendation even if its not true). |

Sit down and give him your resignation letter. In the letter, say you are moving on to better your career. Never say anything bad in the letter even if you hate your job or your boss. You never want to burn your bridges.

Just go in and tell him/her, and also have a short written note that essentially says you will be resigning as of X date, so you can hand it to him/her.
It's nice if you can tell them why, like you found a really good job opportunity that you couldn't pass up. But I'd refrain from telling them you are quitting because they are a jerk. |
