Market share my friend market share. That is the reason you will find a Autozone by any Advanced Autoparts, a Target near any Walmart, and a CVS by any Walgreens. They are rivals and as such have to compete for each others customers.
Generally when you see a store like that, they did research to figure out whether or not it was a good location to build (traffic, proiximity to other stores etc.). They all want a peice of the profit. If they were to let their competetors go unchecked they would loose tons of money. So most competetors are more than happy with getting half of the other store's customers rather than none at all. They know that most people have some form of name brand loaylty and thus will choose their store over the other one. |

one store moves in. another store, that wants more customers, moves in right next to the first, with lower prices. people buy from the store with lower prices, better service, etc. one store goes out of business. remaining store gets all customers. |

They do that for competition. I know its stupid, huh? But that's what this world is all about competition. They probably saw the other place doing good in that one spot and decided they could do better. Oh and what about a company like Starbuck's putting their coffee places right within like 1/2 mile of each other. Now that is really overextending themselves. |
