It is because we are in the middle of a "take down" of the American culture by politicians destined and focused on
deluting the population into a cultural mix that leaves the traditional American citizen in a maze of multi-lingual confusion !! It is a concerted effort that is well underway (note the latest of legislation NOW in the Congress to give citizenship status to some 15 million Mexicans who are in the country illegally at this point in time AND the turning our national highway system into a "freeby freeway" to every Mexican trucking company in existence !!! ) |

Yes and it's totally annoying, let alone calling a bank or customer service and they are asking "Do you want to speak English?"
Uh Yeh I do. We are in the United States and English is our offical language! Am I right? |

When you try to make a profit, you will come to a strange conclusion. There is more money in the world with Non-English speaking populations than English.
If you owned the store, would you really refuse to service people, letting the profit walk out the door, because you did not speak the language they wanted to use?
The signs you see reflect the people around you. I've lived significant parts of my life in Texas and California, this seems so obvious.
PS.
If a sign in Lowe's/Walmart bothers you, I'd cancel the vacation plans to South Texas, or South Florida, you'll be sorely disappointed. |

This particullarly aggrivates me also! The reson that they do that is because there are so many illegal aliens in the US now that they have to keep up with the two main languages that are spoken. In all acctuallity if you look at it Spanish is spoken the same amount in the US as English if not more.
Allmost all stores do it now. Even the directions for things are writen in both Spanish and English. Even on food products!
Also, the US does not have a national language unlike many other countries around the world. So this enables them to do these sorts of things. |

Quebec useto forbid English signs but they comprised and now require French and Other Languag sign if the Store isn't French speaking. In Quebec the Dominant language is French. While most of Canada it is English. Walmart and Lowes they both have at least 1 store each in Quebec,
They probably doing 2 signs elsewhere as a result of having have to have 2 different language signs in Quebec. Maybe they don't want the Spanish to sue them or threaten to sue just as the French. Maybe they found 2 language signs increased their business! Anything that works to increase business why not? |

What has brought us here?...the politics of capitalism. We have an ever growing population of Spanish speaking illegal immigrants who do not speak English. Their cheap labor is in demand, their political presence is looming and their money spends just as well as anyone elses. |

They are not doing it at all stores. Just the ones where there is high content of English and Spanish people in that community. They are trying to show that they are there for their customers an so then by doing that they will increase their sales. |

It's called Marketing. Does it bother you that much? If it does, then Americans haven't learned to move forward and still think are the center of the universe. Move to Switzerland and you will have signs in 4 languages! heheheh... |

I am sorry about answering this question with a question.....but why aren't there any asian, italian, or ebonic signs up? I figure its because of marketing techniques. If the majority of wal-mart consumers were chinese, I wonder if they would post the signs up in chinese? |
