What store provided the WORST customer service? |

Tess | What are my rights as a cashier for CVS/Pharmacy? |
I was scheduled to start work at 7 am this morning. I showed up at 6:50am, the store was closed. No cars in the parking lot, no one around at all. I knocked for about 15 minutes straight...No one came to open the door. I waited outside til about 8am...Customers came and went, wanting to shop...I left at 8am. Can I get fired for this? What's the waiting time? I just called the store and no one answered, which leaves me to guess that no one has arrived at all. Also, we ALWAYS open the store at 7am and there are usually people there BEFORE that time. I would appreciate any input that can be helpful or useful. Thank you. |

I would find it hard to believe they would fire you over something like this. It would be really absurd of them to do so.
However, many people are unaware that employment is usually "at-will". Meaning that unless you have a written contract with your employer they may end your employment without reason being given, and without cause. They can simply tell you that you no longer have a job. While this is legal for them, it wouldn't be long before nobody would work for a company that did this. |

They have the right to fire you for any reason at all. Your employment at CVS is "at-will" which means they can fire you if they don't like what you are wearing. The only thing they really can't fire you for is for your gender, race, and religion but those are the only things really protected when employment is at-will. Majority of jobs that pay hourly are at-will. On the applications at CVS it says something in small print like "CVS Inc. reserves the right to terminate you at any time for any reason", and you signed somewhere under that. So it all depends on what type of boss you have, if it's someone who's going to get mad or not. Legally, they can fire you for that if they want to, it all depends on if they want to. Besides, I doubt they would, because then they have to give a reason, and I doubt the manager who was supposed to open would want their superiors knowing they slept in and didnt open on time, so I doubt they would fire you anyways. CVS is a low paying job, its not even worth the trouble to worry about. Theres so many ways to make money online now, I dont understand why anybody would waste their time worrying about losing that kind of job. If you need help send me a message, I know lots of ways. But even if you dont want to make money online, you could always just pick up another job just like that. Im 27 but when I was in my teens I had about 18 jobs like that, eckerd, walgreens, etc. If you lose the job you could easily pick up another one, and lie on the application and say you quit, never say you were fired, they usually don't check for the reason anyways. |

I would go back tommorrow and see if they open again. If they have I would go straight to the back and immediatly go to your boss and explain your situation. I would also ask him for a emergency number for you to call in case that ever happenes again. I honestly don't think that they can fire you for that but if they do I wouldn't want to work for a company that inconsiderate anyways! |

I wish I had my handbook here at home or the carenet site we use that lists all the information from HR. I worked for the PBM in Pittsburgh. By chance, did you get snow? Maybe the person that was suppose to open did not show up. Are you sure you looked at the schedule correctly. Try calling the store back and see what is going on. Do you have your manager or another coworker you could call? Sorry. I hope everything turns out for you. |

Maybe you should slide a note under the door and ask them to call you when they arrive. |

Do you have the number of the manager who was supposed to open the store at 7? They're going to take the fall I'd think, you stayed there for an hour, and since no one showed up, it seems reasonable that you left. I'm a little surprised that you didn't have any numbers to call in case of an incident like this though. |

hm..are you sure you didnt read you're schedule wrong, because since ima minor at my job minors should start at 7 no before.

If you have the home number of any of your supervisors, you should call them and let them know what is going on. If you don't, try to leave a message at the store saying what happened and that someone should call you as soon as the store is open so you can come in. This will serve as documentation that you did try to come to work, at least. Obviously, some supervisor screwed up and didn't come in to open the store. I can't imagine that you would be held responsible in anyway. If no one calls you, keep calling periodically throughout the day to see if they open the store. Write down when you call, too, that way you can show that you made a concerted effort to work, should there be a question about it later.
Good Luck. |

I don't think you can, you showed up and tried to come in, but i guess the manager wasn't there or something. but if they call you, be ready to come in and work if they ask you too, and you should be fine....whoever was responsible for opening the store should be the one to get in trouble for this one. |

You showed up prepared to work, but no one was there??!! If I were you i would be more worried about getting paid for the hour that you sat around there waiting. Very rude and unprofessional! |
