★SoCalMami★ | What are signs that a company will start to layoff employess soon? |

I prepared a long answer and cancelled it. It really depends on the sector and the performance of your company within the specific sector. Whether the company still makes enough profit to satisfy the shareholders. Whether it can actually reduce staff without reducing also the profit on the remaining sectors.
If the overall performance is good, you do not have to worry. If you sell high value cars for example, you will no have to worry. The rich people who can afford expensive cars will always buy them and not even acknowledge that there is something like a crises ongoing, unless they watch by coincidence some news.
Mergers are always a sign that reductions are aroung the corner, nomatter what the management says.
Mergers can be justified by high yielded targets or on reductions of staff (with very few exceptions). Nobody believes in high yielded targets, not even the consultants to the management who get paid anyhow! |

When my last place of employment was heading for bankruptcy and they were slowly letting people go until they had the bare minimum staff they needed to keep the company ticking over until someone bought the property, there weren't many "signs" really.
We didn't have a clue what was going on,until we were called into a meeting to be told the company would be eventually shutting down and some lay-off's were going to occur.
Most bosses would try and keep it quiet as not to upset or worry the work force. |

Top managers are unavailable. Many times you do not get notice until the very day you are laid-off. |
