What are some pro's and con's about wal-mart?

Some Pros of WalMart are they have low prices on select models or items. Bread, milk, eggs, beer, etc are cheap, but you will end up paying more for other items. The low end model of a microwave or radio is the lowest, but the next model up in line is more expensive than other stores. One pro is also that they do provide jobs to a large number of people.

However, there are alot more conns than pros to Wal-Mart. Some of Wal-Marts business practices are not ethical or in the best interests of the consumer or employees. And it is the right of a company to earn the greatest revenue, or as they say in investment circles, maximize shareholders wealth, but a business/corporation should also be a responsible member of their community and help to make their community better. This is where WalMart seems to be lacking.

The PBS show Frontline did a really good program on Walmart and if it was good for America. While I assumed PBS would find things wrong with WalMart, it was interesting. They forced Rubber Maid to lay off thousands of employees, a television manufacturer in Tennessee (I think) to go out of business and close its factory, and their marketing practice of the low price point is almost a bait and switch tactic. Also, WalMart has been repeatedly sued and found guilty of making employees work off the clock and not paying overtime. That is not right for any business and I cannot think of any employee who enjoys not being paid for their work. That is simple fairness.

Lastly, the whole issue of health insurance. I know that health insurance is a benefit that is offered as part of the entire employee compensation. However there have been reports and testimony in the Maryland senate that WalMart encourages their employees to sign up for state health insurance and pays the least of its overall revenues towards employee health care.

Once again, their is a difference between an admired company that is profitable and helps better their employees and community and a greedy company that sucks the value and resources out of their employees and communities and leaves nothing of value when they are done.

Are you kidding? OMG. There are no pro's regarding Walmart. They are in the midst of the largest class action lawsuit in Employment Law history! Presently over 40,000 past and present employees are involved in the suit over employee abuses from Texas clear over here to New York. Stay away from them.....

Good on savings ~ do 95% of my shopping there!

However, it is always so so so busy, never enough lanes open and I hate the parking.

Pro's - cheap prices

Con's - that's also how they treat their workers (cheap)

Pros, what pros!?!?!? It puts smaller businesses out on the street and takes advantages of it's workers!!! I hope they got bankrupt one day.

well pros like others said....selection and prices. Providing jobs.

cons: many cities fight Walmart coming because it destoys mom and pop shops....also takes up land and creates alot of traffic.

Price are great on some items, but they do not treat their help well and give them good benefits.

Cons - The scary Greeters.

The pros are that it provides savings for people through a great business system that works.

The cons are that it has supported The Homosexual Agenda.
