A leader is usually somebody who is able to understand what makes a particular individual behave in the manner in which the leader wants them to behave. The leader then motivates that individual accordingly. Leaders need to get things done in any enterprise and will use a range of techniques to get the best out of people they are leading. I remember seeing a cartoon many years ago. The scene was set in a palatial boardroom. There were a six members of the Board of this multinational company sitting around a large table. The Chairman of the Board was addressing the group. "Gentlemen", he said, " we have a serious problem". He continued,"we have run out of individual offices and titles - now we are going to have to pay our staff more money".
While more money may motivate one person, a title may give another more incentive. The leader of people will know which method to use and when to use it. |

The differentiator for me is that good leaders have vision and are acting on a longer term or strategic basis where mangers focus primarily on the short term (getting things done), or more tactical basis. |
