What are your feelings on Wal Mart building stores in your community?
We have 6 Super Wal Marts in our area and there are plans to build several more, but some people in the community are upset with Wal Mart building a store in their neighborhood. How would you feel?

I don't despise Wal-Mart, I shop there. But I shop more at Target . They want to build a Wal-mart in my area; there are people that have these bright signs sayin : NO WALMART!!

I would feel sad and depressed because Wal Mart attracts many trashy, low-class people into our neighborhood. It also has very very ugly clothes that are so totally O-U-T of style!

yes I know I am fabulous.

I dont own a small business, so i say bring them all. We have 3 walmarts nearby , 2 kmarts and 3 Targets. Despite that, our small businesses seem to be ok.

I'm all for it. We have a tiny walmart and our town is fighting to get a SuperWalmart. People who don't like it, don't shop there.

I feel your pain because Walmarts are certainly taking over and it's sad because they are a nasty company, for the country and for their employees. The sad part is, they will build wherever and whenever, there's not really anything a person can do. Even if the community fights it, they usually end up winning.

It doesn't affect me personally but it really does have an adverse affect on the countries' economy. Notice how every time a Wal-Mart goes up, all the smaller stores around it go down. They also don't pay their employees very well at all.

I love Walmart but you can get too much of a good thing. Whatever happened to their original concept of building in smaller community's. Now they are just like Starbucks. There's one on every corner.

i have a albertsons a wal mart a sams and a super wal mart i like sams and albertsons (i know that sams is owned by wal mart)but i hate wal mart only because they wont let their employees work long enough to get liability i think its stupid

Around here they are taking all of the business from the local mom and pop shops, forcing places to close down, leaving vacant buildings, I personally don't shop at walmart I would much rather support the locals just trying to make a living than line some corporate pockets.

I WISH we could get a Wal-Mart where I'm living. Right now, it's at least a 45 minute drive to the nearest department store. What a nightmare.

Wal-Mart is obviously not perfect, but they provide a very useful service to people (especially poorer people) in rural areas. I get so upset at the arrogant (usually rich) people who act like no one ever needs to buy things cheaply. What a bunch of baloney!

And, the whole thing about their wages being "unfair" is so bogus. If people didn't want to work at those wages, they shouldn't take the jobs. The fact that people take the jobs proves that their wages are better than whatever the alternative is. (By the way, does anyone really think the little "mom-and-pop" drygoods stores ever paid better? What a laugh!)

Most of the criticisms of Wal-Mart exhibit an incredible lack of understanding of basic economics.

I am in a field that would not be affected. Anybody doing retail business should be worried. Wal Mart can buy from suppliers due to the volume they buy at a price so low that they can sell it to consumers for the same price that a small business owner would have to pay in the wholesale market for the same product. The end result is they cannot make a profit on any item that Wal Mart is involved in selling. While this may sound great to the consumer who wants to get things cheaper and has a low paying job, it is very bad news for anyone who wants to make a living owning a small retail business. The money made by Wal Mart is to a large degree sent back to Arkansas instead of recirculated in the community. The jobs they provide are typically low paying with poor if any benefits. This seems like the trend however in all fields.

I'm very against Walmart. It makes all the local businesses go out of business.

I say "build more" if they are needed. I like Wal-Mart. It is basically a one stop shop for me. In my area the store honors all sale ads from the other grocery stores plus, as a general statement, Wal-Mart has the cheapest prices.

walmart provides good at cheap prices for sure

however, the service is terrible, whenever i go in there, i cant find anyone working, if you need help with something you are either going to have to walk 5 miles around the store to find someone and if you do get lucky and find someone their attitude is basically "i dont work in this department so i have no clue"

then there is the register, you can arrive at 3am and you'll still wait in line, why? because they spend so much money on advertising, they cant afford to pay someone to sit there and actually take my money once im in the store

its all the same, if there are fewer shoppers, they decrease the number of registers open, i think their policy is to make the customers wait as long as possible so they'll impulse buy from those little impulse aisles they have near the register, why else is the aisle of crap 10 feet long and the register conveyor 2 feet long?

look my parents back in the 70s used to walk into stores and there was someone there to ask you "do you need help finding something?"

i avoid walmart like the plague but sometimes you cant avoid going in there either because of the cost of something or because you need a variety of things and the only place to get it done in some reasonable amount of time is to go on in

walmart does not create jobs, it only steals them from local businesses

they have a horrible environment policy, they arent very good to their employees, they tend to suck up vast amount of community space with their ugly buildings and i wish someone would nuke all of them

ok theres my rant
