i need pay stubs to get an apartment. i don't have the originals, because my soon to be ex destroys them as soon as they come. i need them asap. i have contacted six people, including three levels of managers in my major retailer employer, and despite having been promised several times that the documents would be faxed to the financial institution, this has not happened. one high level manager even promised to send them to me overnight mail. they never arrived. none of these people answers their phone, and no one ever calls me back after i leave voicemail. i have contacted the corporate office twice, but no one has called me back. so far, this process has taken four weeks. i cannot afford to wait any longer, but don't know what else to do. no one with my employer will respond to my queries. i live in illinois. is there any to force them to give me the documents i need? |

In the mortgage industry we use something called a Written Verification of Employment in that situation. Your apartment complex should be able to use something similar. For that, you don't need anyone in upper management. Just anyone in Human Resources who can verify your year to date income should be able to fill that form out for you. See if the apartment complex will accept something like that and find out if any of your direct supervisors or managers or someone in HR can help you with it.
Also, if this has been going on for 4 weeks shouldn't you have gotten a whole month's worth of new pay stubs in that time? You aren't STILL bringing them home to get destroyed knowing you need them are you? |

I've found that going to the source works better than going through managers. Is there any way to get to your payroll people? Is there a company that provides payroll services (like Probusiness?). Can you get to them online? If you can't reach the payroll department locally, try HR. Also, tell the apartment people what you are going through and ask them if they will take a signed letter from HR verifying your employment and salary. That's a pretty common request and HR should be able to provide it. |

Going to your HR department is probably a good action plan. Perhaps your line management is so busy they have no time to do anything other than call HR anyway, and HR may be the ones giving them the runaround.
If your employer subcontracts out the Payroll function to an outside company, eg. ADT, or Paychex, etc, you may be able to get a paystub by contacting them and requesting one. You'll have to prove your identity, of course, but I think you'll have a good chance of getting one. |
